ramik Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 i'm also thinking of upgrading my venice 3200+ to an opty 165, currently i found only 165 or 170 denmark, will they work with my system (see signature)?
wevsspot Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Yes, The Opty 165 and 170 processors will work on the DFI LP NF4 Ultra-D. You will need to be running a BIOS revision dated 6/23/05 or later though. The 623-1, 0704-2bta or 04/04 all work good, with the 0704-2bta getting the nod from me. ramik Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Well, it has been long since i've decided to get an opty, but looking around i was able to get one from ebay only now (just won the auction), an Opteron 165 0617FPMW, on google it is said this can reach 3000 on air cooling. When i get it i will post results
SpeedEuphoria Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Good Luck! sometimes the dual core Opty the Max Async Latency and Read Preamble in bios are picky settings, so look into those if you have any probs
ramik Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I have just noticed something: while updating cpu from single-core Athlon to dual-core, do i need to reinstall windows vista or will it adapt to the new system?
wevsspot Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 If you have changed any bios settings then clear cmos and reload optimized defaults. Boot to windows and use Device Manager to uninstall the existing processor. Shut down the machine, swap processors, clear cmos once again and reload optimized defaults. Boot into Vista and let it do it's thing. No reinstallation should be necessary, but when you get a chance it is recommended. TheParadigm Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I have just noticed something:while updating cpu from single-core Athlon to dual-core, do i need to reinstall windows vista or will it adapt to the new system? I'm in pretty much the same boat, as well with an sli-dr and an opteron 180, but I'm running windows XP instead. Is the procedure the same for XP, or am I going to have to reinstall with that OS? wevsspot Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 You won't have to reinstall the OS. Follow the same basic procedure for XP. OS re-installation is recommended, but not absolutely necessary. I've done it both ways without issue. Once you've completed the installation of the new processor and booted back into Windows, use device manager, expand the "Computer" key and it should say "ACPI Multiprocessor PC".
