henseman Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Hello, First time in for some time and went to get into DFI-Streets, only to find it no longer existed. When did the changeover take place? My problem began after expeirencing some funny business with my XP Pro. I decided the best route to fix, would be the fdisk/reformat routine. After installing XP,((without the nvidia IDE SW...tried with it too) and had the same problem) that being, Found new hardware. The messages were trying to get me to install the drivers for the nvidia parallel ATA, nforce ADMA, etc. Also, after doing so and failing(notice saying that my processor doesn't support it) I check in device manager and I have 3 or more instances of Ide controller, primary and secondary ide controllers, one of a dual ide controller. I tried removing these, only to have them the reappear every time I reboot. I remember having the same problem about 6 months ago and I can't remember what procedure I took to fix the problem. Can any one here steer me in the right direction to clearing up this problem? Thanks and hope to see some help soon, as I'm starting to go wonky, LOL. henseman

KimTjik Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I'm sorry if I'm slow but I don't see the problem here. All hardware need drivers, right? Before a device has appropriate drivers the operating system will simply recognize its hardware address, but it can't use it. So, when it comes to Nvidia chipset and its features you certainly need drivers, otherwise you'll get a system without USB, graphic and sound capabilities and so on. Nvidia IDE SW is just one of several drivers, and as it is now I would prefer Nvidias instead of MS drivers. Instead of using the CD I would suggest you visited Nvidias home page and downloaded the drivers from there: select "platform/nForce drivers" / "nForce4 series AMD" / and the correct operating system. It comes as a single package; select all but the firewall.
bldegle2 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 "I am upset with the fact that the dual-core 939 sockets processors disappeared before I could upgrade to their fastest. Now I'm faced with the prospect of having to do a complete upgrade to the AM2....meaning new MB, processor and ram." >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Huh? you need to look around, yes, they are going fast, but are still available at several sites...Canada, that may be a problem, then there is Ebay and NewEgg.....grabbed me a 165 awhile back, it will do 3.2 max under pelted water, runs 3.0 24/7, nice little chips........ laterz, baldy
