shadowmansm Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Here is what I plan to get, what do you guys think? I want to keep this fairly inexpensive but still perform great! DD=Danger Den CPU: DD TDX 775 CPU Block $52.95 GPU: DD Maze5 GPU Block $44.95 Chipset: DD 680i Chipset Block $42.95 (heard that this block will work for North and South bridges, is this true? If so I would be getting 2) Pump: DD MAG II LE Pump 150GPH, Head 8.2ft $39.95 or Via Aqua Pump 320GPH, Head 6ft $24.00 Radiator: DD X-Flow Black Ice Pro II Radiator $35.95 Reservoir: DD 5.5" Bay High Density Polyethylene $8.99 Tubing: DD Standard Clear Tubing Est. 8ft Needed (Probably wont use that much but just in case) $10.00 Estimated Total: $240.00 - $285.00 (with 2 chipset blocks) So, what do you guys think? This will be used on my new system not the one in my sig, I really want this to be as silent as possible with great cooling: eVGA 680i Rev. A1 E6400 Geil DDR2 6400 8800GTS
UncleDavid218 Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Thermaltake + watercooling = disaster-waiting-to-happen Stick with all Danger Den stuff! Otherwise it looks good for your purposes. (though watercooling the south bridge probably isn't necessary)
shadowmansm Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 So about the south bridge, do you think I could cool it with a fan on non audiable speeds or maybe aftermarket passive would be sufficient, This is my first intel rig so I am not so experienced... UncleDavid218 Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 An aftermarket passive cooler would be the best (Thermalright HR-05). But to be honest I don't think you need to watercool the north or south bridge as they do not get hot enough to hinder overclocking performance. radodrill Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I'd look into the Swiftech Storm CPU block. Also, If you're getting an 8800 then you'd be well advised getting a full-cover block; you might want to check out www.ekwaterblocks.com for them. You should definitely consider getting at least 10' of tubing. Also consider the DD (LIANG) D5 pump; strong yet very quiet. As noted earlier; Avoid TT H2O like the plague. GL W/ your H2O build
UncleDavid218 Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Oh right, I didn't even notice the GPU block. Definitely get a full cover block for maximum performance. And, as mentioned, you always use more tubing than you think.
3stars Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 check how much air flow you get in the case before you go with passive cooling anywhere, in case your air movment is reduced (no cpu fan,gpu fan etc..) there's no point going w/c for silence only to put fans in for any passive coolers. also remember that you will need some air flow over you ram.(bit of a contridiction there i know but what in saying is check you air flow) all this will need consideration on where you place your radiatior and the air flow it creates
shadowmansm Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I planned on leaveing at LEAST 2 120mm fans in the case on a fan controller at inaudible rpm's to keep the air moving! But I am more worried about lots of noise as in the wineing of fans and the such (That Evercool VC-RE can put out quite the wine at certain rpm's). I shouldnt have too much problems with the 2 120mm fans on the rad because it will be quite far from me as it will be at the back of the computer case.. But anyways thanks for the heads up
shadowmansm Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I may have to wait on the 8800GTS waterblock, the cheapest I could find was from Acetal $100 and the DD is $125!!
3stars Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 with the 2 120's still moving air ram sinks and the maze 5s will be fine also if your budget is a little thin keep an eye out for 2nd hand parts here and ebay it's not like there gonna be worn out or anything and you'll save a lttle money(allways a good thing). I mean i just picked up from ebay here a storm block, dd maze 4 and pump for 100 aussie dollars.
