My water cooling build list.. suggestion welcome :)

Recommended Posts

Finally moving to H20. After talking to Rado and bunch of other guys @ DD forum. It looks like the best way to cool a QX6700 probably is H20. (Sorry, phase is just too much for me ;) )

I am cooling only the cpu.

Here are my list of WC equipments:

Rad: ThermoChill PA120.2

CPU Block: Swiftech Apogee GTX

Pump: DD D-5 / Swiftech MCP-655

Fan: 2 x SilentX IXtrema Pro 120mm x 38mm 90 CMF 18DB Fans

Coolant: FluidXP Phantom Black 32

Rad Grill: ThermoChill Grill for PA120.2

Tubing: Tygon 3603 Tubing 1/2" ID 3/4" OD 10FT

Fillport: DD Derlin or Brass Fillport 1/2" OD

Fittings: Danger Den High Flow Fittings for 1/2" ID

Clamps: 12 x DD Plastic Snap Tubing Clamps

T-line: 1 x DD T-line

Tools:

1 x hole saw kit

1 x Dremel kit

1 x Cordless Power drill

Does anyone suggest use those metal tubing plug for more secure tubing connection? (They look shinny :eek2: )

Does anyone suggest any metal fitting for the Thermochill rad? (They use 3/8" BSPT/NPT instead of 1/4G

Any suggestions are welcome. :D

Great to hear you're moving to H2O

No need to use the FluidXP; Distilled H2O with Zerex and UV Dye-lite works just fine (and is also cheaper)

The plastic snap clamps are great; with metal hose clamps you run the risk of cutting through the tubing by over tightening the clamps.

At least for the most part the plastic fittings work fine; my Swiftech Storm and MCW-60 came with plastic barbs and they're just fine. However, Metal barbs are more secure.

i dunno about people. but i dont use mix yourself distilled water.

i just get coolant like pc ice, fluidxp, etc. (i use pc ice)

mainly because.

1. i dont test leak

2. alot of coolants dont conduct electricity

3. the oil in coolant actually lubs your pump. there is a reason why coolant is called ethylene glycol. and not water-mix.

4. ya. it cost me then water. but frig its like 12-20 a bottle. and the less then half a bottle can fill a 120.1 loop

comes already UV ready, and one bottle does all your needs for at the very least 2 years.

1) I don't leak test either But I do us a distilled/de-ionized H2O mix.

2) Distilled/de-ionized H2O is significantly less conductive than tap water; it's the contaminants that make regular H2O so conductive.

3) ethylene glycol is actually an alcohol (rather than an oil) and mixes very well with H2O and is used as a dehydrator in producing natural gas.

4) I can't see spending more for a pre-mixed fluid if a H2O/coolant mix works just as well; if not better.

Thx for the input guys. I greatly appreciated it.

I think I will give it a try both, since I already ordered the coolant and it's on the way already. But I will get the mixed for testing and compare. :D

Any suggestions on the fittings? Especially the fitting for Thermochill?

I love Dager Den as well but I have learned to buy mu stuff somewhere else if I can because DD charges your a arm and a leg for everything! I mean the hose and the fittings you can get much cheaper in Home Depot or something like this! You got to shop around for the better price! Same as the WC blocks. I love DD full cover GPU WC blocks but they are too expensive! I buy my stuff from here now! These blocks are at least the same quality and cost the half of the price! Just my 5C to the story! :)

just use zip ties for clamps you can get the right width and tension oh and bye the way their cheap and easy to remove. Distilled water is enough with a little coolant or water wetter just somthing to stop the alge growing.

The plastic snap clamps can be secured a lot tighter than zip ties and are also re-usable.

When using coolant; be sure that your mix contains at least the amount of coolant recommended on the bottle.
