red930 Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 (edited) 1st post <_< .1st,my specs:antec slk2600,intelP4 2.4c,d865perl,radeon9200,SBLive!,Maxtor 80G HD.My problem is this:when I boot,I get my intel screen(ok)then the Windows XP screen(ok),then, instead of my HD kicking in,it starts over again.Next time,I get the black windows screen with the options to start in safe mode, safe mode w/command prompt, last known good configuration, and normal.Usually,I choose "last known good"and it starts up and runs fine. Some days it will do this only once;other days it will do it once for every other time i turn it on.I have reformatted and re-installed windows several times, and nothing that i understand can fix my problem(very much a helpless noob).Any assistance would be appreciated. Transattic Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 it might be a damage sector in your HDD. If you get a chance, run scan disk in windows or DOS. Sorry i cannot tell you how to get there since i cannot find it myself. Search google.com for "ScanDisk" and you will get a step-by-step direction somewhere. If its not the HDD, then it might be a powerfailure of the powersupply, or something might be damaged on the motherboard, i.e. chipset, ram, cpu (highly doubt it). Try that and get back to us... hope it goes well for you.
ClayMeow Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 If its not the HDD, then it might be a powerfailure of the powersupply Sounds like you need a new PSU to me.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 Might be your ram, too. If I push my ram too hard my comp will restart right as the Windows XP loading screen pops up.
frictionboy Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 That used to happen to me whenever i had a disc in my dvd drive until i changed the boot order in the bios, so if you have a disc in one of your drives, that might be the problem. hope that helps! Special_K Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 (edited) 90% of the times that this happens, its the power supply (at least thats been my take on the matter) so good luck with finding a good one, what do you have in it now? -edit- apparently its solved, good job!
