Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

since I'm a total newb to the plasma thing and want to pick up a screen I would like to know what is the bad and what is the good thing about my choice. Here is the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16889187030

Let me know what you think about it! Thanks!

Here's a Westinhouse 42" LCD that does 1080P 1920x1080 for 1334.00

http://www.compsource.com/pn/LVM42W2/Westinghouse

I don't know if 1080P is better, but seems like if you would play games on it or HD movie source it would be better.

Just didn't want you to think no one was looking, lol.

Edit:Seems I might be mistaken about 1080P,

Looks like a good forum though

Panasonic makes a great set.

In fact there are a number of manufacturers that deliver great product.

There are only a small number of screen manufacturers and the key is pairing them with great electronics.

I sell a couple of Plasma manufacturers (not advertising, just saying :))

The 427XD and 507XD are Pioneer model numbers.

Many people never use the built in ATSC or NTSC tuner (cable HD is the primary signal source).

Pioneer's commercial products (PDP-427CMX and PDP-507CMX) offer a number or features over the standard sets but have NO built in Tuner.

You'll also need a stand or a wall mount (note: not all wall mounts tilt, and that is very important for wall mounting).

Microtek (the scanner and digital imaging folks) also have a line of plasma screens out.

http://www.microtekusa.com/tvs_cineon.html

I just ran the three of them in a demo for customer and out of the box they were all very close.

Remember to keep the brightness and contrast at normal or turned down levels the first 200 hours.

If you got questions give me a shout and I'll try to give you some NO bs help.

I don't see 1080P being broadcast in the near future, so 1080i is the max you'll probably need.

The Pana 42" has gotten consistent very good reviews over the last two years.

Check out the Top 5 as reviewed by Home Theater Magazine.

Your Panasonic is there :D

http://www.hometheatermag.com/buyersguides/flatpanels/

I

've got one brother in law with the 60U and I've been very impressed with it.

I have another B-I-L with an older version who has had to replace lamps three times.

Just been a lemon for him.

As the cost of these things plummets, the justification for purchasing an extended warranty becomes a very difficult choice.

Figure $300-$400 for a three year extended warranty (that is actually two years after the standard 1 year warranty runs out- 2 + 1 = 3).

BY that time the sets may sell for $800 to $1000 and have new features.

Hard to make a recommendation.

You will definitely pay through the nose if there is an out of warranty problem.
