Another Core2Duo Build

I know you guys have seen plenty of these already, but I think it's time for an upgrade as most recent games do not run very well on my current setup. Let me know what you guys think. I hope to order parts this week to have something to do over spring break. All ordered from newegg.

EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

--I've heard good things about this board, and although other versions may be a bit less expensive this is the only one with with the DDR2 1200 memory standard. I figured its a pretty good future proof board.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600 - Retail

--I realize I could buy an e6400 or e6300 and oc them, but I'm not huge into overclocking so I would rather get a chip with a higher stock frequency and not have to oc it. Also, this system is going to be air cooled, at least for a while.

EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail

--This card should last me a while. I could wait for the ATI cards, but the 8800's seem to have few flaws, at least when running Windows XP, as I will be. Plus it comes with a free game.

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT12864AA1005 - Retail

--Crucial has always been a ram I have wanted to try out. It's one of the better deals out there too and runs at DDR2 1000.

OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply - Retail

--Good old OCZ. Only heard good things about their psu's and memory, so I figured I would give them a try. I'll be running about 5 or six hard drives so I just want to be okay with the 700w. Also, just in case I decide to go with 2x8800's in the future.

COOLER MASTER Stacker 830 RC-830-SSN2-GP Silver Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail

--Everybody seems to like the CoolerMaster stacker series, I thought I would give it a try. Lots of room here. Plus there are areas for the cooling fans, and this being and air cooling only project, I thought it would work nicely.

One thing I am not sure of is the cpu cooler. I hate stock coolers. Anyone have any suggestions for one.

If you're not overclocking, thumbs down on the tuniq/newer zalmans.

They blow air in the direction of the PSU, not down on the mobo(in the direction of the evercool vc-re mounted on a dfi chipset). This means the board gets no cooling, but with a hotter CPU usually results in better CPU cooling.

You don't need the few extra degrees if you don't overclock. However, unless you put vga ramsinks on several parts of the board(or have a board that has this there for you already, but I doubt it), you may get stability issues from parts on your board getting too hot.. god knows I have.

I'd recommend the Thermalright xp90 and si120. Both do a very good job at CPU cooling while also keeping the board pretty cool as well.

I usually combine the tuniq with another fan for the board + vga ramsinks, but why go through the hassle if there's no overclocking?

i would get a different heatsink if only because the stock intel one is such a piece of crap.

What resolution are you going ot be gaming at? The GTX may be a bit overkill, if you looking to save a bit go for a GTS or even a 320mb gts which newegg has for $300 now.

Well, I would like to buy a 22" monitor as well, just not this minute. That's why I decided on the the gtx. More for a future proof card that should last. I can always go with two down the road and pick up a new cpu.

Anyone have any suggestions as to which 22" monitor. I've been looking at the LG with 3000:1 contrast and the Schythe (sp) with 1200:1 and hdmi.
