SanguineI Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Hey guys, I'm attempting to install one of these great Thermalright HR-05-SLIs on my expert and I've run into a bit of a problem. I'm using Angry's nf4 chipset fan removal guide but I think he left out tips on how to actually remove the heatsink from the chipset. I've got the pins through the board and the fan unplugged but the heatsink seems stuck on there pretty good and I'm deathly afraid of breaking my chipset. I'm assuming that twisting is a nono, so how should I remove this thing? Is there something I have overlooked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I thought this was going to be a quick mod :[
Coors Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Your going to want to twist it back and forth until it breaks it's seal. But you also want to be careful at the same time. Edit: But push the pins out first.
SanguineI Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 NM, got it. The heatsink popped off and nearly gave me a heart attack but the chipset is fine. Should have trusted my insticts.
Coors Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 lol...it has that nasty looking white gunk on it I bet. Be sure to clean that off with a Q-tip or something.
HITandRUN Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Yeah make sure you get the crap of it and here is a picture installed on a EXPERT with a 8800GTX. Great temps form that thing!
SanguineI Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Yep, I saw yours and it gave me the courage to buy this one (I heard a lot of people saying these wouldn't fit well). I just finished closing my case up after connecting all my front panel connectors and cursing like a sailor as a result. The AS5 hasn't cured yet but I'm looking at a 10C drop right now
HITandRUN Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Looks like you need a bigger case to get all that stuff in there! I decided a while ago to make a box for all that WC stuff and get it out of the case!
SanguineI Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Thats a pretty sweet setup If i took a shot from the side of my case though you could see that my case is actually pretty wide open on the inside. I couldn't take a good angle picture though because I have a small desk with 2 19" LCDs on it. I've been keeping my eye on craigslist for a new desk and when I find one, this hunk of crap is GONE
