RunLoganRun Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I'm trying to nail down a new psu. I've got it down to three. OCZ GXS700, OCZ Evostream 720, and PCP&C Silencer 750 quad. Now only one has the modular cables, the Evostream 720, and I do like them, in general, but haven't heard as much about this psu as the other two. I'm running an Asus board right now, but am going to switch over to DFI Expert. Also, I have one 8800GTS now, but would like to put two in SLI. Does modular cableing make a difference one way, or the other, performance wise? Am I most styling with the pcp&p 750, or can someone reccomend something else? The PC&P is 199.99 on their website, the Evostream, on NewEgg is 189.99, and the GXS700 is 154.99. Thanks for any help.
Guest Lavell Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I don't know about any of the PSUs you mentioned. I have the Enermax Liberty 620W Power Supply Unit (see signature). It has modular cabling. As far as performance goes, it hasn't given me any problems. The modular cabling helps me keep the interior of the case neat without a loss of performance. I love the PSU. uneedav8 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 From what the experts say, they say that you should avoid modular cable PSU's in general if your concerned about all out performance. Modular cabling is suppose to add resistance to the power supply which is not good in their opinion. But I don't know if we would actually notice any difference as an end user without all the fancy electrical test equipment. There is some more info about this on PC P&C website. I have had good luck with modular PSU's, it makes the case so much cleaner.
Coors Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 If you want a modular psu many people recommend the Corsair 620w.
RunLoganRun Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 If you want a modular psu many people recommend the Corsair 620w. Need more power than that for SLI. I would want a mod psu, providing there's no good reason why I shouldn't have one. Anyone have EvoStream 720? I think I'm set on the PCP&C at this point though. thanks
wizurd of awwz Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 PCP&C makes damn good PSUs. If you're really set on getting a modular PSU I'd pick theirs.
uneedav8 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 PC P&C don't offer any modular PSU's. They are completely against them. I think the best be would to bet to get a custom PC P&C Unit from Performance PC's or Frozen CPU that has been modified to modular cabling; if modular is a must for the system. expresso Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 i have the hiper 580w -- which i had to rma - i though modular would be ok but not too sure now and i dont like the dual or quad rails etc. - its too confusing and i think makes things worse - i did some research and my next psu will be pc power and cooling - i would go wit that one - but i dont think they make modular and for good reason -- for what your adding - i would think about the 1K model to be safe for sure with dual 8800 - and if you go quad core cpu later on - your be set -- i am looking at the 750w from them if i should need a new psu - better safe than sorry --

tasr Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX $150 after rebate. Getting a quality PSU is the most important thing and a 600W or better will do nicely.
