jlqrb Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I just got a expert board today and one of the yellow slots doesn't work so I have to use my memory in one yellow and one orange. That is fine but I am getting my command rate is 2t not 1t which I think giving me slower times when I run super pi, I was getting 39 seconds with no over clock before and now I am getting 45 seconds. Is there a way to get back to 1t or would I have to get a new board with working yellow slots ? I have heard that the orange slots are the ones that give more problems. Voltes-5 Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I run my Ballistix on the orange slots no problems. In fact I got better clocks on the orange than the yellow. I'm surprised you are able to run yellow and orange, with my board, it just wont boot. If one of the slots is busted and it is not caused by any negligence on your part, then it can pass for an rma I believe. jlqrb Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I just got the board off the street sale, so I am not sure if I could RMA it or not, I just plugged my SLI-DR loaner that was holding me off until my expert arrived and I am getting much better clocks on it. with no over clock on my cpu just tighter RAM timings, I got 37 seconds super pi and my RAM command rate is 1t. I can see that it moves so much faster than the expert is, and the last time I tried to boot into it it just stayed on the screen that shows you the DFI logo when the mobo is logging. Are you running Corsair or Crucial? Corsair in the orange slots should be just fine. I run them in orange on both of my Experts - good stuff. The only way to find out - hive it a shot. You will not have dual channel in opposing slots, so that's where you're taking at least part of your performance hit. I'm not familiar with Crucial, but I've used a lot of Corsair. Post back with your results.
jlqrb Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 sorry I am using crucial not corsair, when I have it in any of the other slots 2 things happen. in the other yellow slot windows will not load and the screen just stays dark for about a minute then my pc turns off and back on. in the 2nd orange slot slot 4 the mobo won't load and I get beeping from my mobo. the orange and yellow work together just, it is a huge hit in performance it is moving slower than my socket 754 build, I am not sure if the problem is all a RAM problem but I think the board is having some major issues. Does sound like a mobo problem. Have you tried your sticks one at a time in each slot? This should really narrow down the problem to the mobo. When you say "street sale", is that something Newegg just had? You could always try through the RMA through them, or directly through DFI. jlqrb Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I meant that I bought it on here on the DIY street forum off another member, ya I have moved the RAM around one stick at a time, the board really seems to only like the memory in slot 1, slot 2 works ok but I think that is the slot giving me my slow timings and slots 3 and 4 don't work at all. because I got the board second hand I might not be able to RMA it to even DFI and the person I bought the board from is out of country for another couple of days, he seems cool and will most likely help me fix the problem. I will continue to mess around with it but I haven't had any improvement as of yet, it is more like it is getting worse, sometimes it wont even load up the motherboard info. Kingfisher Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Have you tried a CMOS clear. When I had my expert, every time I changed hardware I cleared CMOS. That RAM works great in expert boards. I hope you get good results. Good luck.
jlqrb Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I have clear the CMOS a few times but it hasn't changed anything.

jlqrb Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I have used G skill with a expert board and it worked fantastic, I was using the 2gb DDR 500 sticks. I just have a defective board, I am sending it in for RMA and should have another board soon
