USB "2.0" problem!

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

This is my first post here, but ok. Lets continue with my question/problem.

Some days ago i bought a external Usb harddrive, ok. I plugged it in and got this notice :

USBPRUT.JPG

It says that i dont have usb2.0, or plugged it into the wrong hub? This is my only USB-thing that i plugged in! I moved my MX510 to PS/2, just to make sure that only my HD is on.

I dont know, i run Windows XP SP2 (I reinstalled it yesterday) so USB2 drivers should be included (and they are). I even tried to install the USB2 drivers on the DFI CD, but then (when i put my HD on) my system is slow and "system" takes up 100% processor..

Someone knows the problems and knows how to fix it ?

Ohyeah, my BIOS settings are good : V1.1&V2.0..

Im running with a AMD3700+ "San Diego" @ 275x10.5 = 2888.5 Mhz

Many thanks, and sorry for my crap english !

Hello,

You mentioned that you reinstalled windows SP2, did you do this in windows?

eg, Your pc had windows on it without SP2, you then installed SP2.

Or does your windows CD have SP2 slipstreamed/integrated to it?

It must have SP2 integrated to the actual windows XP setup CD.

In device manager do you have one that is called,

Standard enhanced PCI to USB host controller.

Or one with the word enhanced in it?

enhanced = USB 2.0

Is it possible to test the drive in another PC?

Ok, i reinstalled it.

Now i have :

Universal Serial Bus Controllers

- Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller

- Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller (what is this ?)

- USB Mass Storage Device (my HD)

- USB Root Hub

- USB Root Hub

Need more info ??

Problem seems to be the " - Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller (what is this ?) "

It "takes over" the other ports or something.. If i disable this i cannot connect anything..

Actually, it only has USB 1.1, so thats no help.

I just want to get USB working on my main pc. I even reinstalled my Chipset drivers to the newest, didnt help though..

I dont get it why i have 2 usb root hubs.. Ill try the "internal" usb port.
