Technohydra Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Just curious about this, what would be the effect of using 2 pumps in a loop? Either series or parallel flow. Would it increase the head rating, up the flow rate, etc?

Technohydra Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Okay, just what I was hoping for. I happen to have an extra D5 sitting around, so I may just link 'em up.
momoceio Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Remember flow rate can only go so high though...depending on what point in your loop has the most restricted flow.
Polizei Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Series yeilds roughly 1.5x the head, actually. Theoretically, 2x, yes. Tons of info about that here.
Technohydra Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Hmm...so a series setup would allow me to overcome the restrictiveness of a full cooling system, with 2 gpu blocks. 16.5 feet of head would be great. My proposed loop is as follows: 2x655/D5 pumps White Water limited edition cpu block 2x Dangerden Maze 5's or MCW60's from Swiftech(advice here??) Maze 4 DFI Expert chipset block reservoir undecided, would like advice Swiftech 320 quite power radiator I think I should be able to get a ludicrous flow rate out of this setup, nearing 2gpm. If that's the case, performance should be through the friggin roof!
Polizei Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Im still on air myself, but lurking around XS water cooling forums, and either you get a full cover block (EK blocks are godly in their opinion) or get the MCW60 and the MC14 RAM sinks and youre set. Advantage of a full cover GPU block is no hassle with the thermal tape for the RAM sinks.
politbureau Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 2x Dangerden Maze 5's or MCW60's from Swiftech(advice here??)Maze5's are more restrictive - more so even than Maze4's. Theoretical performance is better (due to higher impingement), but in my experience, it's still nearly identical to the Maze4. The Swiftech blocks are far better in this respect, and I personally think they cool better. Maze 4 DFI Expert chipset blockAre you sure you want this? It's quite difficult to fit with most video cards, and provides no real benefit - just added restriction. Buy a Thermalright HR-05-SLI instead and you'll get about the same performance for less money and reduced complexity in your loop. reservoir undecided, would like adviceAlmost totally depends on the case. I love the EK units, though they're expensive... look here:http://www.jab-tech.com/EK-Multioption-RES-150-pr-3715.html Swiftech 320 quite power radiatorHmmm, this is an OK rad if you want to use totally silent fans, but if you want enough capacity to cool 1 CPU and 2 GPUs, I'd get at least a Black Ice Extreme - potentially something better, like the GTX or thermochill. Technohydra Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Come to think of it, my chipset already has a VC-RE on it and never gets above 40C... I'll think on the rad, as I want a Thermochill360, it's just costly. And I do have to say that getting anything to fit with my GX2 and spacers is gonna be a whore.
