RickyG512 Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Hi i got standard no heat sink 2 x 512mb Corsair Value Ram, i want to upgrade by getting 2 x 512mb crucial ballistic ram, this is top high performance ram capable of getting like 600mhz i heard, i also heard they use different types of ram chips on it, wont know if its compatible with the corsair value ones, then i have the problem of yellow and orange ram slots, which one goes in which, please help Crucial: 2 2 2 6 400 mhz http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs....=BL2KIT6464Z402 Corsair: 2.5 3 3 8 400mhz http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=2X23 Thanks
Sharp Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Hello, It probably wont work with the Corsair memory, there is a small possibility that it will. If you want 2GB you should go for a 2x1GB kit. And should both kits work together, the Corsair one will limit your overall OC. 600Mhz is a high expectation for these, 280Mhz (560DDR) is the average. RickyG512 Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 oc'ing it is not really my concern, the value ones i have done 240/480 mhz, havent tried higher but i want to know if it will work, i can not get a 2x1gb kit, so wat do u suggest, will it work, it would really help if u had a definate answer thanks
CrackJiver Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 No, It doesn't work. I tried that exact combination and the timings and the voltages are too different between the Corsair and the Crucial for them to work. It will boot with all them in but only sees 1Gb. The Ballistix runs fine in my rig at 250X10 but I had to loosen the timings to 3-3-3-8. At 2-2-2-6 they would not boot past 213. I was not all that upset when they wouldn't work because I won the Ballistix at our LAN party. (shameless plug:))
RickyG512 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 ok what about 4x 512mb Corsair Value Ram, 2 in orange and 2 in the yellow will that work
Sharp Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Your question has a but to it. Yes it will work but providing that the chips on the new Corsair kit you buy are the same. (and the timings must match).

Sharp Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Not with crucial modules, there are more timings than just the standard 4. "yes exactly same corsair value ram chips, it will definitly work yes" Yes Some 2x1GB kits, should you wish to reconsider. http://www.memory-configurator.co.uk/produ...pacity-2Gb.html
RickyG512 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 wat about if i got the balistic ones and set all the timings the same, not just the usual 4 timings and then will it work ?

CrackJiver Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Not likely, Like I said, I tried for a few weeks of and on to try to get the combo of 1Gb(2x512) Crucial and 1Gb(2x512) Corsair working but gave up in the end. The ballistix operate at 2.8v and the Crucial at 2.6v so you will be undevolting one set or overvolting the other. Same for the timings, one set will be running out of spec so it is not likely to work consistently. Your safest way off going to 2Gb is to get 2x1Gb sticks Dabs 2Gb is not that much more than the 1Gb(2x512) Scan.co.uk are quite reasonable as well as cclonline
Siclion Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Crack, What are the best timings you have gotten on your ballstix right now im at 250FSB 2.5-4-4-8 @ 2.8v that is normal and how does the stock setting on the ballstix run at those timings that I put in and the only thing different in our machines is the mobo processor ( which is really the same your is a dual core 64 amd my a opty dual core 64) and the video card. Just wanted to see what you have gotten outta these things im Orthos right now at my overclock almost done with a full round of test. 250FSB x 10 Multipler with stock DDR500 settings on the ram. First time I have overclocked so im still learning. Thanks
