scrapser Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I ordered everything for my new rig last night but the Thermalright HR-5 is out of stock at NewEgg. This seems to be the most popular heatsink but since I couldn't order it right then, I started thinking maybe there's something better with active cooling (fan). I'm getting the Zalman 9700 CPU heatsink/fan and wonder if there's something out there for the chipset that will fit. They appear to be fairly close to each other. I've seen a picture of the Zalman and the HR-5 in use and it looks tight. Any suggestions? Thanks

scrapser Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Thanks...that's what I tried to order at NewEgg. I guess my original post isn't coming across too well. I was wondering if that heatsink will more than do the job or is there something better available. I'm getting an DFI Infinity 975 board, E6600 CPU, Zalman 9700 Heatsink for the CPU, and either the HR-5 or something else for the chipset. In the setups I've seen, it looks like the HR-5 would benefit from being close to the Zalman and actually getting some of the airflow from it. Thraxz Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 You can take a look at the chipset cooler that's linked in my sig.
OldGuy Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Or just stick a 40~50mm fan onto the existing HS...just pop it, apply some AS5 and stick a fan on it. Works just fine.
Guest ElAguila Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Take a look here for some alternatives. I have the blue ice pro on my 650i board and it does great for me and cost a lot less with performance just as good as a heatpipe: http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticl...980&articID=
