cRu|Timmy Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Hey im in the process of putting together a c2duo build and wanted to know ur guys recomendation on a good heatsink. Ive been looking at a lot of different ones and I want one that cools well and looks good too. Im also concerned about the sized of some of the bigger ones being able to fit. This is my case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811144089 and im about set on getting either a Gigabyte DS3 or DQ6 Mobo. Thx guys
THEnumber337 Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 One of the best performing heatsinks on the market right now is the Tuniq Tower.
Angry_Games Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I've heard only good things for the Tuniq but never had one. I do know I see the guys always warning to make sure you got enough space for your case door to close lol. Thermalright and Zalman of course make excellent sinks (Thermalright's Ultra-120 I think is their top one, and Zalman I think is on teh CPS9500 or something)

From all of the graphs I've seen the Tuniq seems to be the leader in performance.

I want to try a Thermalright CPU cooler sometime because I got the HR-05 SLI chipset cooler and I love it.
BuddTX Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I have not had a lot of CPU heatsinks, so please take this with a grain of salt, but I really like this one: Thermalright SI-128 CPU Cooling Heatsink along with this 120 mm fan SILVERSTONE FM121 120mm Case Fan It did a lot better on my CPU then this one: Thermaltake VENUS 12 80mm Ball CPU Cooler but I see it is not carried by newegg anymore. This one is similar but evedently it is not the same Thermaltake Extreme Volcano 12 80mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
Thasp Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Tuniq is the best by far. I have one. Two things. a) Don't even attempt to install it with the mobo in the case, and don't attempt to install it with the fan in the tuniq.. put the fan in AFTER screwing the bolts down, or the fan will get in the way of your fingers and you'll eventually cut yourself on the aluminum fins. B) The Tuniq, like other heatsinks that have fans blowing in the direction of the PSU intake fan opposed to the direction of a chipset heatsink fan(evercool vc-re) are good because they get the air to the exhaust fan and out of the case, but bad because the ram, cpu mosfets, and other areas of the mobo now get no cooling, and are overshadowed by a hot piece of aluminum. This can lead to some awful instability, so I recommend buying some zalman vga ramsinks along with the tuniq and placing them on the board in the spots that get hot when you run prime blend overclocked. The DS3 is notorious for these hotspots.. I can burn my finger on one, and if I don't use a fan or something to keep these cool, it does lower my overclock. 3.7 GHz for nine hours of orthos didn't even hit three before I cooled those off. Some boards like the upper end asus(which ironically suck at overclocking, at least to me the p5wdh and the ds3 are in different leagues) put heatsinks along there for you so you don't have to worry, but some don't. ilikeducttape Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 i personally use the thermalright ultra 120 paired with a yate loon 120mm fan. it is virtually silent and cools really well. its also a little smaller than the tuniq tower if you are worried about size. ive also heard nothing but good things about the tuniq, but i never have used one. basically, you cant go wrong with a tuniq, thermalright, scythe, or thermaltake big typhoon. they are all excellent coolers. yes, they will vary a few degrees, but still, all good choices. tasr Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I am going to get a Cooler Master Gemini II when it comes out. It’s BIG but I’ll give it a try. ilikeducttape Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 holy crap, that thing is massive. 2 120mm fans? that thing would be great for cooling other components on the mobo too.

WOW, It looks liek you cant put a 120 in the back of the case with that thing. I wonder what case that was
