Guest Montezuma Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 I'm having some problems with a DFI NF2 Infinity Ultra. I was using it with a Barton 2500+ @ 3200+ and with 3 sticks of Corsair XMS Platinum ram: 2 x cmx256a-3200llpt 2-3-2-6 1 x cmx512-3200c2pt All the timings were anyway handled by the mobo (optimal configuration). Everything was pretty much stable! I changed ram and used 2 x 512 sticks of OCZ Platinum EL (512), timings are 2-2-2-5. Overclock still stable. Then I added the 512 Corsair stick, but there's no way to have a working configuration. The system keeps rebooting, Windows doesn't even finish loading. Can I try something to have a working system? Maybe overvolting the ram? Or is the mobo not good to handle more than 1 giga? PS I guess it doesn't matter, but the OS is Vista. I'm sure XP would be the same. Actually the problem is that you have used an unusual configuration. Normal memory configuration is to use only pairs of memsticks, same manufacturer and bank size in each set (yellow or orange) DIMM slots. Your mobo is ok for more than 1 GB. Have you tried the two sicks of OCZ Platinum EL in your MOBO to load your OS? please post your results. Vista is way more finicky about DDRAM settings than XP. Guest Montezuma Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 I know these mobos are picky! My NF4 is terrible from this point of view. The 2 OCZ sticks are running now with the bus at 200 with no problems. I want to try to increase the bus too, but I don't have big expectations. I thought more relaxed timings would have solved the problem, but it seems not to work. I'm sure it is a waste of time, but I'll try to overvolt a little bit the memory as soon as I can. Guest erico Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Which MOBO are you using and which CPU? your post says one thing and your SIG says another. Kinda clouds the issue a bit. What is the part number for your OCZ Plats? are they PC3200 or PC4000? I would have expected your Sandie to OC pretty well. They have a history of really speeding along @2.7 - 3 GHZ. Check the OCDB and see what settings others with your MOBO/DRAM/CPU combo have had success with. Here is a link to get you started on overclocking success. Have you tried putting your CPC to 2T yet? cheers
Guest Montezuma Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Sorry, my reference to the NF4 was misleading. Forget the PC in signature. I'm having problems with this configuration: mobo: DFI NF2 Infinity Ultra cpu: Barton 2500+@3200+ ram: 2 x 512 OCZ Platinum EL This config is stable! But if I add the Corsair 512 mega stick, I can't even boot! How do I set T2 on the NF2 Infinity Ultra? I haven't found the setting in the bios. Guest erico Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Sorry, my reference to the NF4 was misleading. Forget the PC in signature. But if I add the Corsair 512 mega stick, I can't even boot! How do I set T2 on the NF2 Infinity Ultra? I haven't found the setting in the bios. Your MOBO bios is a bit different than the nF3/4 series Award BIOS. Yours is set up more or less like my ASUS A7N8X-X. You can't find it in your IOS screens because it is not there. Sorry about that. You will have to enable Expert in the Memory Timings setting to make any changes on your own. What you need to do is make sure that SuperBypass is disabled. I recommend that you download the definitive guide to DFI overclocking and read it a couple or more times. It is not an easy read but it is a necessity that you understand how it works. For most people one read is not enough. Then do a search on google for your MOBO / your DRAM / your CPU overclocking. That should get you a wealth of information on what others have done with the same cobination that you have. If you make any changes to the memory timings and CPU/FSB multiplier it is highly recommended that you write all of your stable settings down before you jump into overclocking. It is even advisable to use a spare HDD. A must to have is TMOD's CD with BIOS and Hard disk utilities. his site is here. Most everyone who has been overclocking DFI MOBOs for a while uses his BIOS disk and the handy utilities for memory checking and hard drives. The reason that it becomes unstable when you add the Corsair memstick is that with high performance DFI motherboards, unlike many others, the memsticks must be identical. Sometimes you might get lucky, but don't count on mix and match of different memsticks working well. Each and every memory stick, including identical ones have slightly different memorytimings. The exception is the pairs that are sold are a guaranteed matched set. Those are the closest to identical as it gets. Even the week that the batch was made makes a difference. Sticks from different manufacturers use different memory chips and different PCBs (pc boards) and even different bank size. They are absolutely not the same.. cheers
