syneze Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 Go to a local shop instead. I doubt newegg will let you specify the stepping you want.
howie b Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 1) No, nforce2's wont unlock the post week 39 bartons....they are locked via a cut bridge...no board can unlock them. 2) from what I'm hearing, all the 2500's that newegg has now are post week 39, and thus, locked. sorry, seems like the only way is to go to a local shop and physically look at the chip. Agallion Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 hmm how would i do that at the shop? they just dont let u look at the chips liek that or do they? if so then i am heading to frys!
howie b Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 I have gone to MicroCenter, and they let you there....I'd imagine it's the same at other retail shops.
MJ0588 Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 its not just the 2500's that are locked, but i think maybe all of the bartons
FanATIc205 Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 ive seen some post that some xp past 39 are unlocked and some arent. if you have a good mobo and ram get the 2500+ even if its locked you could still get 2300mhz or more on a fsb oc. mines unlocked and i use the default multi most people do
Ziggy54354 Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 bah i just ordered a 2500+... hopefully i can get it to 11x209 like i did with my 2400+
young-joseph Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 If it's retail version you can see the chip through the back of the box. I know at my microcenter they had week 40 and week 34. Not sure if I should, but I'm tempted to by a week 34 just to have an extra sitting around with unlocked multipliers.

Ziggy54354 Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 ive got a week 40 running at 2.2ghz right now ... ill try and get it up to 2.3ghz later
DevilMB3017 Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 The 2500+ is the best OC chip IMO (Yes, better then the 1700+ cuz you only had 256K L2 cache). I have mine sitting at 200x11 for now, maybe 11.5 will come later. I can't do much with the FSB yet cuz my RAM isn't so good. Once I get some RAM thats more then DDR333, I'll OC the FSB to all hell.
