You might want to test each stick individually to make sure one stick is not faulty.
USteppin Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 You might want to test each stick individually to make sure one stick is not faulty. Hm, well one of my older sticks throws beeps with no video while in slots 1, 2 and 4, it works in slot 3 though All the other dimms work in slot 1 I have all 3 working ones in now and windows is still only reporting 1 gig Guess I should RMA that one that isnt working in slot 1? USteppin Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Well after further investigating I found out that even though all the model numbers are the same, the 2 newer sticks have much different settings then my original 2. I found a link to a program called 'SPDTool' that would allow me to change the settings to match my original ones, or change my older sticks to match the newer ones but I have no idea what I'm doing with that program and don't want to brick my RAM. Also in that thread I found that program is that RAM companies (corsair and ocz were mentioned) are able to match all my sticks for me, I don't know if that is true or not though, if someone can chime in on that.. let me know please. So I guess I'm stuck at deciding on what to do, I really want to keep it but want to figure out how to fix it or I can return the ram and suffer shipping/restocking fees, send it to ocz if they even do that and suffer shipping fees or.. I don't know what other options I have. If anyone else has any suggestions or has used this SPDTool and wants to walk me through it I'd appreciate it, Thanks
Sharp Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Use first set, CPC = disabled. DRAM frequency to 333Mhz (166), Memory voltage to 2.8v. Then save and exit, turn off and try the other set in there.

Sharp Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Looks like the kits have different chips. Contact OCZ (Andy/Ryder), they may be able to swap the kits for you.
bldegle2 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 or, if you really want the two gig, and stable, go for 2x1gig. you will experience problems with the four stick senario, the load on the memory controller is just too much for most boards. this has been posted like hundreds of times........ i tried the 4x512 on my Ultra unit, even had matching sets, i could get it to work fairly reliably as long as the rig was kept bone stock, but that isn't my nature, so i bit the bullet and got some Gskill HZ sticks for about $200 on Ebay (the only place you will find these nice modules). they are working nicely (opty 165 @9x334 24/7, 166 divider, ram speed 273.3, and they work so far up to 287 when i clock the cpu to 9x355, same divider). my advise, be happy, go with the 2x1gig............. baldy
