xc3ll Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Hi there, my Expert was running fine, but then I decided to upgrade to an Opteron 165. So, I put it in, and it didn't boot, I got the 3 LED problem. No biggie, I didn't expect it to work the first time. I did a CMOS clear, and got a new problem. First, 3 LEDs, and then 2 LEDs. Figuring it was my video card, I decided to buy a new one. My old one was crappy anyways. So I bought an EVGA 8800GTS 320MB version. It came in today, and I did a 24hr+ CMOS clear, put it in, but got the same problem as earlier. 3 LEDs show up for about 3 seconds, then 2. I got all the power connections in, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I've also disconnected all my drives except for one Hard Drive, so I don't think my PSU could be causing it. I cannot get it to POST under any circumstances as of now. Any suggestions?
CPDMF Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Have you tried with one stick of memory in the orange slot farthest from the CPU? Also try one stick in the yellow farthest from the CPU. My 165 will boot no matter what but with my 4400+ I have to start out with one stick so I can get into the bios and set a few timings. xc3ll Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I'm currently trying to boot with only 1 stick in the orange stick farthest from the CPU, no luck, same problem. Yellow slot makes it stay at the 3rd LED. I also just noticed that my power LED(on the front of the case) blinks for awhile until it goes solid. My HDD activity LED stays on continuously. xc3ll Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 After doing a bunch of searches, I'm starting to think that my PSU can't handle it. I thought 520W would be enough... I've unplugged and removed everything except my Mobo, Video Card, and Hard Drive. Could it be the problem?? Everything has worked fine until I put in the Opteron 165. xc3ll Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Just bought an OCZ GameXStream 850W PSU, and my rig boots fine now!
HITandRUN Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 You would think 520W would be enough unless there was something wrong with it just as you bought the new CPU! Glad it works for you now!
