Branjo Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Just got this off the free software link someone made and its as easy as pie and twice as useful. First case design (BTW you need the program to view it, its free) Tell me what you think. hope the link works, first time using this upload site. http://www.momoshare.com/file.php?file=e83...cab0f4c43568bf3

Branjo Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Weird I just downloaded it and used winRAR and opened it. hmmmm. Did you use sketchup 6? I cant understand why it didn't work Well Anyway im sure the anticipation is too much for what it is...lol 1st time n all but here it is. Its not gonna break any originality records but I like the 120 fan under the vertical HDD's Now I would like to make the case part out of steel ,heavy I know but thin maybe 3mm thick as its gonna be cold for longer and its not gonna be moved around at all. The window is all plastic but I though I might be able to use thin magnetic strips glued around the edges so it would just stick to the case. The bottom part is for water cooling, I really dont know the dimensions need as I haven't seen one up close. Nothing has been measured in the drawings so proportions maybe way out but its just a first basic design.
General Septem Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I've seen HDDs mounted vertically front to back, but is it alright to mount them top to bottom? What is the bottom section for?
Branjo Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 For some sort of liquid cooling was my first idea but now im thinking about putting the HDD's in there, which would keep that heat separate from the rest of the system. Some extra length cables would be needed though. The program is really handy for designing anything for noobs like myself. Edit : the HDD's would be mounted with the ports facing up, with enough clearance to slide them out if needed. and I think Steel would be a little hard to cut with my limited tools so I might just go for a thicker Aluminum
General Septem Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Edit : the HDD's would be mounted with the ports facing up, with enough clearance to slide them out if needed. It wouldn't hurt them, then? I know how much they rely on inertia and all that.
Branjo Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Yeah mounting them vertically shouldn't matter. there are holes already on drive for this
CopyNinjaKakash Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I downloaded this program along with your file. Pretty cool stuff although it looks like it would take a longer time to become proficient with.
Branjo Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 It is a little time consuming if you are making everything to scale, but for a free program I thought it needed a mention.
General Septem Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I designed our kitchen back before Thanksgiving and I used this program to layout all the counters and everything. We're in the middle of remodeling, so half of the design was just replicating what was already there for the purpose of it being there, and the other half was designing the new that will be installed. Branjo Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Nice one bro, you have given me an idea to do this also. Im in the middle of tiling the kitchen and dining room floor and was seriously thinking of making my own counters too. So now I think i'll try designing some better ones and use the same placements as the last. I haven't got much bloody choice as I have just tiled around half of them lol. On a funny note: I had just tiled about 50 tiles in a square in the dining room and I had just reached into the fridge for a coke and my 4 yr old son came tearing downstairs and through the dining room and shifted just about half the tiles :eek2: All I can say is its a good thing he's quick on his feet
