jlqrb Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I am overclocking a new opty 170 that I just got, I have never had a opteron so I am not sure what the danger temps are for it. I have it on 1.45 volts right now and running prime 95 my temps are 49c-51c they drop back down to 34c when I am at a idle. I have head that 60c is to high for the 170 so I was wondering if my temps are ok, because I would like to take the chip higher but would need to most likely go to 1.5 volts. Thanks
jlqrb Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 the 49c-51c was when the computer was doing 1024k now that is is doing the 8k and 10k the temps are 45c-48c so much better but i have heard that opty's can't take allot of heat. kitfit1 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Those temps are just about ok. What cooling are you using?
jlqrb Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I am using stock cooling at the moment, I want to step up to a xp-120 but last time I did with a amd x2 I didn't get much better temps. But I think it was my error not the xp-120 because it seems like most people get a really good drop in temps with it.

Make sure you apply the thermal compound correctly.
jlqrb Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I think I did, I tried it a few times cleaning off the thermal compound and putting on a new coat when I would try again but what would happen is my temps would be good at idle around 30c but when I would give it a load like super pi or prime 95 it would shot up to around 55c. So I went back to my stock cooler because I was getting tighter temps with it, from around 35c to 50c a 15c difference and I was getting a 25c difference with the xp-120. I don't have a really large case though can that have something to do with it?

You can't have a bunch of wires dangling around to obstruct the air movement.
jlqrb Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I was using a Aerocool TURBINE 1000 120mm fan, it moves a ton of air so I thought that it would do a good job with the XP-120.
