XE_Specter Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Hey. Came to the best place in the world to get info. Im using the ITE smart guardian to get my temps. Tried overclocking from 2.4 to 2.6. got out of GRAW with maxed settings and resolution at 1600 X 1200 @60Hz and noticed my chipset temps were like 52C. Normally at idle it runs arround 48-49 never noticed it as being high before. I launhced GRAW and played for about an hour and saw my chipset was 52C in bold red lettering. When I converted to F it was arround 124F. So How hot is hot? and what can I do to lower it? MACarter02 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 youre okay in the lower 50s. Its not something that I would be happy with, but it wont kill your board. When I first built this rig, I was getting low 60s actually. Your first step should be to hit the tutorial section here at the forum and see how to replace your DFI Heatsinkfan thermal paste with arctic silver 5. THat should help a bit. If you still dont like it, or if it's too loud for you, or both.... you should look into the thermalright hr-05 sli. it cools passively and much better than your stock hsf. I highly recommend it. XE_Specter Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Ok, i think i just figured it out. my 8800gts sits right on top of the chipset. i forgot to plug in my 120mm fan that blows right over the chipset and graphics card. my temps went back down to 41C wich is 106F still pretty hot but atleast its not red. Can I run my Graphics card in the bottom PCI-E slot?
XE_Specter Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Guys in my clan are saying this is still too hot. What do you guys think?
THEnumber337 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Guys in my clan are saying this is still too hot. What do you guys think? Low 40's is fine. I put the Thermalright HR-05 SLI heatsink on mine and it's passively cooling my chipset at around low 40's.
ISSA2000 Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 70 the hotest iv got.. every thing was as max (transfer rates) 14hdd in system.. when you copy data everywhere it gets hot...+ esc it you play a dvd at the same time... 80 (iv unstable) 70 max still stable,, but you want in in the 60 or less.. chip can take (before death i think 125?) XE_Specter Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I did some 3D mark testing and my temps didnt go over 42C. Im happy with that.
iamkoza Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 those are good temps for load temps... I was getting low 50's too... combination of a) zalman vf-900 for GPU B) evercool vc-re w/AS5 on chipset c) 80 mm fan blwoing on chipset get my load temps down to 42 and idle
Hirotaro Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 What can I say is that my chipset was also around 50*C with stock cooling even after changing yellow "think" with the AC5. Finally I bought http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/main_product_hr05sli.htm and now my chipset is about 36*C without any FAN and about 32*C with 120mm FAN 650RPM blowing somewhere near (not exactly on the Radiator). It also helped me with temperature of the Power Area of my X1900XTX which is much cooler now.
tasr Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 This is a very good thread by soundx98; Temps Too High on keeping the PWMIC, and the MOSFET cool. Hope this helps you. You can adjust the speed of the chipset and CPU fans if it is plugged into the motherboard for maximum cooling by going into the BIOS, under PC Health Status and set the: “CPUfan Fully On…” > 26ºC and “NB Fan Fully On…” > 40ºC Basically this will set the fans to full speed (RPM). If the throttling or noise is to loud adjust the temp up a bit or put your fans on a fan controller. These are some other temps to consider. The MOSFET temperature is rated something like to 110ºC. The PWMIC temperature is rated to 90ºC. The temperature diode is right in the middle of the group and senses the board temp for a good representation of the temperature in the area. I hope this helps.
Hirotaro Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 The stock fan won't lower the temp of chipset even with max RPM. It'll still be about 48*C but the noise is not very comfortable especially when Computer is in Your Bedroom And thx TASR for the link - V.I.!!!
