aclays Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Over the last week i've been able to overclock my opty 165 to 2400mhz, still haven't seen a hiccup or any heat increase, so i'm slowly pushing it higher. My question is about the ram. The only way I've gotten an overclock like this is to have the divider keep the memory around 200mhz I've had problems with my Corsair, at any timings under 3-3-3-7 or any speed higher than 210mhz I get instability and reboots. I want to get new ddr500, but it looks like I've jumped on the bandwagon a little too late, I don't want to dish out $300 for new ram, especially since I don't consider myself a hardcore overclocker, or a hardcore gamer. I'm just having my little bit of fun on the weekends dabbling in things. I want to upgrade to 2gb ram, so that games like WoW and F.E.A.R will work better. I figure while I'm at the upgrade, I may as well get something a little bit better. Does it matter which of these two sets of ram I get? Or is there a better option? I'd like to be able to push the ram up to at least around 220-240. I assume the OCZ kit is a safer bet than the Kingston? OCZ 2GB Kit DDR400 Platinum Edition $180 after $40 rebate. THEnumber337 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 The OCZ kit is what I'm using now. I got it at DDR450 at 3-3-3-8 no real problems. It can probably go to around DDR460 and maybe, just maybe DDR470. When I was looking around OCZ's forums for some stable stock timings it seemed as if the max overclock people were getting was around DDR450 - DDR460. I haven't had any experiences with Kingston RAM. tasr Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 You can find used DDR500 in the For Sale thread. If you want new RAM. Out of the 2 you listed I would go with the OCZ's.

Branjo Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 What revision are your Corsair XMS sticks? Mine are 1.1/1.5 = BH5/BH6 I believe. They respond well to being overvolted. Most I have hit in them is 230FSB at 1:1 CL2.5 but they will do 220FSB at 2,3,3,6 and all I did to hit this was change the Refresh Period (Tref) from 12xx to 31xx. cant remember the exact numbers. Even at stock speeds everest gave me another 100Mbs on the read test. Memory is the only confusing thing to me so I just try one thing at a time and give memtest a run and see if things go belly up or not. but I wish I had got better sticks like OCZ the first time around, a lot less hassle. aclays Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Yeah i tried bumping up the voltage, changing the timings around a few times, couldn't get anything to change. Not sure what version they are, I got the first stick about 2 1/2 years ago and the second stick 2 years ago, they've seen a good amount of use, but not much overclocking.
