I am considering an Acer AL1917WAbd Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824009100 but I am open to any suggestions. Is not having a DVI port a big deal? I want to know what the moron was thinking when he wrote this in the description: "The unit comes with DVI and VGA inputs pre-installed, so multiple monitors can be hooked together for twice the mayhem." But back on topic, I've seen lcd's with vga and DVI. The DVI was a little bit better, but you really had to be picky to even notice. I use DVI on my Dell 2005FPW and it's a beautiful thing (1680x1050). Can you wait a little and save up some more cash? The dells are really nice (but even those you have to be sure what you are buying). So are some of the NECs. I'm no 'master' on makers like dell, nec, acer, etc, but it really comes down to the 'panel' maker and the electronics driving the thing, and not who's branding it. Search all the forums so you can get a good feel for what you are getting. I'm sure others will chime in with some suggestions. ReelFiles Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Brands recommended to me so far are; Viewsonic, Acer and Dell. I have more money, since my tax return got back already, but I am not looking for anything crazy, just the best I can get for around 200 bucks. Dell's do seem pricey but nice, and the Viewsonics I was looking at don't have DVI in that pricerange. So far the Acer in my first post fits the bill, but I am not sure how that particular model performs. This monitor would be for my wife, who games but not too often. She mostly uses office apps and reads online, so size, viewing angle and contrast ratio are my main concerns. She's not into crazy high desktop resolutions either, right now she's happy with 1280x960 on my 17" Gateway EV700 CRT. I was concerned about the low (500:1) contrast ratio. Not sure how much of an impact it would have, but 700:1 seems to be the norm nowadays. Nice 3 year warranty though. suedenim Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 TN panels have good response rates but poor viewing angles. I have the Dell 2007WFP which is a S-IPS panel. Going to this from a 6yr old 17" CRT was quite an experience. Better colours, great for gaming and so on. It has better viewing angles than a TN panel. Angry_Games Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I have (between me and my buddy) 4 Viewsonic VA1912wb widescreens. when we bought them, they were $194/ea right now they are about $210-ish I think supa-fly for gaming and all that stuff. I know it has a pretty big effect on movie viewing, but that isn't a major concern for what I need it for. I like the Viewsonics myself, bought a few for customers, but the screens in my pricerange only have VGA ports, will I notice a difference in picture quality compared to DVI?
