UncleDavid218's brainstorm -- a new case, a new mod

Recommended Posts

The Lian-Li V2000 was a wonderful modding experience and got my feet wet.

I absolutely LOVE the case, but it's time to move on and I am selling it.

This brings me to my next mod. I've just today begun the arduous brainstorm process.

Here's essentially what I am looking to do...

While this case will be watercooled, this time around the GPU and CPU will only be watercooled.

A 240mm radiator will most likely be used.

In keeping the theme with my new motherboard, the Abit AW9-Max, the theme once again with be stealth black and silver.

However, this is where it gets interesting.

The case, whatever I choose to get, will be powercoated with the following finish (except it will be graphite carbon fiber)

I am also (probably) going to have the DVD burner either finished with this or chromed

Pretty cool, huh? The company that does this is Daltek.

Though I am still waiting on a quote, the clutch cover that can be seen above cost $50.

To have the whole case done, inside and out, will most likely cost in the range of $150-$200.

With all of that being said, I'm not intirely sure which case I should get.

One thing I really didn't like about my V2000 is that it was so big.

Any suggestions about the case, and the case mod in general?

I love the idea of the carbon fiber look. Not to keen on the optical being chrome though. Use the chrome or polished pieces just as accents to break up the solid color and give it some depth.

Can't help you with a case. I don't transport my main rig so it's in a cube. My transporter rig is in a junk $10 case..

For that price you could put a layer of carbon fiber over th case and it would probably cost less. Additional bonus would be that the finish would be more durable.

Check out fiberlay for carbon fiber fabrics and composites supplies.

I've done a few things with composites so if you have questions please ask (or PM me)

It'll be cool to see how yours turns out UD, check out ediejo's Carbon Li worklog at xs, if you haven't already:

I saw that log on Bit-Tech

Maybe I should keep my V2000 and have it either powder coated some color or have the CF effect applied...

I'll definitely do that CF mod to my Corsair Dominator memory cooler (so sick!)

I can't believe you are getting rid of the V2000. That thing looked so sweet at the TMN meet. I should have brought my case in.

ANYWAYS.

I think a stacker would be a great one to mod, one of the old versions, not the new ones (I think they are uglier then me)

carbonfibre case, hope more manufacturers will follow...

well, i always liked that v2000.

CF isn't very hard to work with. I personally would be more inclined to make my own composite case.
