InVeNtOr Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007  can someone please explain the differences between the gigabyte boards. i did the compare and there seems to no difference expect some small items. i am going to oc, no raid, no sli, so i am assuming the cheapest one is best. i just don't know the actual differences. here is the link to the three. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCompa...N82E16813128018
Thraxz Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 It seems to me you answered your own question.
tasr Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 If you don’t need RAID 0 or 1 and this stuff (GA-965P-DS3 User Manual Driver Disk Rear I/O Panel Shield IDE/PATA Cable FDD Cable 4 x SATA Cable) your good to go.
InVeNtOr Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 i at least need the rear I/O pnl, but why would the cheapest one have the ability to do quad core and not the rest? what i was more asking is the difference in the P965 & G965, the on board video chip, and Marvell 8056 Marvell 88E8053? there was also the additon of the "additional raid controller" with the 2 higher ends having an option of GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip or GIGABYTE SATAII controller. sorry guys i guess i need to give more info when i ask questions. Branjo Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 The S3, DS3 and DQ6 are all getting wonderful reviews at least the non-DOA ones, and basically all seem to love OCing the C2D's. The thing that sets the DQ6 apart is the cooling and solid capacitors as well as a crazy BIOS with very fine tuning options. Apparently the DQ6 has better sound that can deliver DTS. Most reviews on these boards are old reviews and most of the bad points say the BIOS's on the rev 1.0 are the problem but newegg are said only to be stocking the rev 2.0 of these boards with later BIOS's and all the wrinkles all ironed out and able to run much more RAM and not just the 1.8v ones. The DQ6 is the one im gonna go for even though the rest of my components are under a strict budget im not going to cut any corners with a Motherboard. PS it just looks awesome too. InVeNtOr Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 alright thanks. i am not going for the dq6 because i don't want sli. i am going to get the cheaper one with all the cables and stuff. thanks again for all the help
Branjo Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Even so the reviews on the cheapest one still say it kicks butt. Im not into sli either but I just like to have the choice if I ever decide to go down that road. Angry has the S3 and judging by his OCDB its right up there with the best of them. Good luck bro

InVeNtOr Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 the reviews are great on all of them. even Mr. Angry tested the s3 and it oc's very well. i am going for the ds3 becasue it has the cables and the back plate. it's only a few extra coins. radodrill Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 The 965G-DS3 is a lower end chipset than the 965P; but has integrated video; thus the higher price tag. The difference between the 965P-S3 and the 965P-DS3 is: There is the regular 'S3' and this Durability Enhanced 'DS3' model that is in all essence exactly the same board except that it sports the new All-Solid Capacitor design. but why would the cheapest one have the ability to do quad core and not the rest? According to Gigabyte's website; they all support the quad-core CPUs
