PUTALE1 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 My trusted 7800GT just died on me . I am not sure how it died. I put it in my DFI motherboard and it works for one second then it just died. Get this, it's odd as it won't work when I use the 16x pcie express lane or 8x lane. However, the card actually boots at pcie 2x lane. Ever heard of 2x pcie card . Well, don't believe me, here is the picture to show it. Do you guys think the board might be faulty? I tried the card on another system and it's not booting (it's a 16x pcie). Sharp Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 If the SLi jumper blocks are set to pins 1-2, any PCIe GFX card that is placed in the second PCIe slot will run in 2X mode. Card or board? I would say its the card.

PUTALE1 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 yeah, but when I put the card in the first slot, it won't even run. Could it be possible that I damage the card when I put it in the 2nd slot with it set at 2x?
Sharp Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 No this would not have damaged it
PUTALE1 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 so it's okay to put a 16x pcie to a 2x pcie? (it this true only on the dfi board or others as well). It's so odd as I think that my board/pcie maybe damaged and just couldn't figure out what and why it's damaged.
Sharp Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Works in any board, but only if the GFX card can run at the lower speed. The newer 8800 series must run at x16
