K33B4 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Help me decide what chipset to use for my new c2d rig? I'm going to get a e6400 and ocz ddr2800 for this rig, i want to get a good OC out of this cpu and looked at two chipsets, 965 and nvidia's 680sli. I've read in forums bout 965's but i've got no solid lead on a good mobo. Recommend a good mobo that would give me a stable solid OC. red930 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Depends on how much money you want to spend. If i had the money it would go to the Asus Striker anyday. Chipset 680i http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2...439&modelmenu=
Coors Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 One of the Gigabyte boards would prolly make you very happy. Either the S3, DS3, or the DQ6.
K33B4 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I've looked at DQ6 and the Ds3 and i prefer to get the DQ6 but it's 10 bux more than the evga 680i at the retail place near mine. So i'm wondering if the 965's benefits outwiegh the 680i's
Coors Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I only have the DQ6 so I can't really comment on the 680i chipset but with what little I have messed with this board it is already looking like it's going to be my next favorite mobo. I've read bout angry's comments on the 965 chipset from Gigabyte and how impressed he is so i guess your experience is validated. I'll get that tomm with e6400 and 2GB OCZ Plat rev 2 DDR2800's. Thasp Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 The DS3 is hardcore. Be wary of open box/refurbs on newegg, though. I cheaped out and bought one, and the ATX power connector is messed up, pressure has to be applied on it to the right(assuming the CPU and RAM are to the left), or it goes off. I tried the PSU on another board, and another PSU on this board with the same results. It's still a kickass board. 3.8 GHz on here was 10x easier than 3.56 GHz on my asus p5wdh piece of junk, and with far less voltage.
