Quazi Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I just went from SLI to a single X1900XTX. Yet I forgot to switch the jumpers under the first PCI-E slot back for a single card configuration. The X1900XTX runs fine. Bench marks in my game and in 3DMark benchies all bear out great. So my question is this....Is there anything detrimental that could happen to my mobo by running a single card even though the switch is set for dual cards? I am disabled and with my water cooling loop, it was such a chore for me to make this change. Took me nearly 6 solid hours going at my snails pace and increased my back pain 4-fold. Thanks! CPDMF Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 No harm can be done, it just changes it from a 16 lane slot to dual 8 lane slots. You probably wouldn't even see a difference if you did move it back.
HITandRUN Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Don't think it is a problem since people proved in the past that the cards can't even utilize the entire 8xPCIE yet!
tasr Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Technodanvan has a comparison thread on X8 PCI-e verses X16 PCI-e. Check it out. http://www.diy-street.com/forum/showthread...4803#post364803
