snezzer Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 DDR2 - Which 2x1Gb Memory would you suggest? Check my sig for my planned build. I may fiddle with overclocking a little. Preferrably on straight air cooling. But I'd like great performance at stock speeds. And stability. WOW, am I ever tired of the unstable PC experience due to crap ram! My budget for memory is about $300-350CAN, so... I guess... about $275US. I mean, I would rather spend less than that, so if you think a less expensive option would work for me... that would be great. I have no loyalties or leanings to any specific brand. I'm fairly new to this... so, I'm open to anything. What do you suggest? And thanks for anybody's help.
Technohydra Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I'd have to say Corsair or OCZ would be your best bets. I've never had an issue with any Corsair product, and OCZ is as good in my book. Look for some XMS2 Corsair like this. If you wanted to get a little crazy, give this stuff a look. You don't have to run water throught it, it's just an option. Coors Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I have the g.skill ddr800 hz's. They're a little more than your price range but I have always had nothing but great experiences with g.skill and have no reason to believe these are going to be any different. Your best bet would probably be a pair of ddr800's. And I would also consider other boards then just DFI. There are many others out there that are just as good if not better. Edit: Actually it seems that the price has gone down a little putting them right at your price range. But thats at newegg. I'm not sure what they cost at a place that ships to Canada. Praz Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4D would also be a good choice. In this screenshot the memory is at stock speed and voltage. Still was able to run super tight timings at 1T.
General Septem Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145168 There's what I'm looking at if I upgrade. Fits your budget perfectly too. EDIT: And I see Praz agrees too.
Bubbaxm2 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Aren't the CORSAIR XMS2 DOMINATOR being shipped with promos ic's now?
ReverendRun Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Aren't the CORSAIR XMS2 DOMINATOR being shipped with promos ic's now? Yeah, I think so. http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/ Also, in your budget I'd go for these: G.Skill HZ's or Crucial Ballistix No matter what I would check ram list and try and get some D9's. snezzer Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 No matter what I would check ram list and try and get some D9's. Thanks for your suggestions, Rev, but... what are D9s? I guess I could google it, but this is a more enjoyable way to seek info. Thanks for your help..
momoceio Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 D9s are the chips used for the RAM...some other chips would be Samsung, Infineon, ProMOS, Elpida...

The Overclocking Database is always your first turn when looking to see what the rest of us are using for our rigs and getting nice stable overclocks out of them. Go look there and see what real users are getting on proven-stable overclocks.
snezzer Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Well, here it is... my planned build, coming in at around $1700CAN before taxes and WinXP OS purchase. Most components coming from directcanada.com. Please, everybody... take a look at what I'm thinking and give opinions. NOTE: Assume that I will leave everything at stock speeds. Perhaps in the future I will try to overclock this system, but my first concern is that it will be a fast, stable performer "as is". Thanks for your help.
