HokieRif Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 So EVGA decided to hose me for an RMA I had put in for a disconnected component on one of my 7800's. To make my case that it wasn't my fault - the card was one I had received as an RMA, and was refurbished... Any way, it's too bad I gave EVGA more of my money when I bought my 8800gts, but I digress... Any way, my question here is a simple solder solution what I need here? I've circled the piece in-question below - only one of the leads has come off, so it is still partially attached to the board... In addition, once I do get it connected (if soldering is the way to go), what risk am I at when I try to test it out?
General Septem Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Depending on a multitude of circumstances, anything can happen from the card being able to overclock 25% more than it used to to the card catching on fire and burning your house down (a risk you take with any electronic device, actually). What's most likely to happen? It'll work... or it won't. That's probably all there'll be to it. If you solder it properly there's no reason why it shouldn't work. Whether or not it's the solution, I'll leave that for others to advise.
Guest Lancer33 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 I have knocked the same Cap off of 2 of my 7800's. They are SMT and I just dabbed some solder paste on and reflowed it with a heat gun. Just be careful.
red930 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 If the leads on the component or the lands on the PCB aren't damaged, any competent electronics tech should be able to perform a repair.
thefabe Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 You could take it to a jewler and have it soldered
