UncleDavid218 Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I had pretty much decided on my PSU for my upcoming build, when I was going through Newegg's PSUs and notice that the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 was the SAME price as the Corsair. With a name like PC Power & Cooling it's hard to resist, but I've heard they can be a bit loud. (though my case tends to be anything but quiet lol) I've only got to power the machine in my signature, which isn't much, but would like to keep this PSU for a year. Modular is nice but if it's that or super mega quality, quality will win me over everyday. So I'm kind of in a bind as I will be ordering within the next week. What's the verdict around here? I know Dan will have something to say!
red930 Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I know Dan will have something to say! Yeah, but that tool doesn't know anything. For a real overclocked rig, I still wouldn't get a modular supply, especially since you have a large case. They're both equally powerful though, since the Silencer is not of the same quality as the Turbo-Cool series I doubt it's much (if any) better than the Corsair. At the same time, the 620 has a 120mm fan which is probably much quieter than the PC Power & Cooling with it's noisy little 80mm. My choice? Neither. I'd get the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 instead....or of course keep your current GXS 600 which would have been fine too. (dunno if you sold it yet) The 750 would ensure you've got more than enough power for any single card for easily a year (though the lower ones are probably fine as well). Another consideration is it has only a single rail, which personally I believe is a much more solid design than multiple rails. The 610 has a single rail as well....but the 750 isn't all that much more.
THEnumber337 Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I really like my Cosair-HX620. It's pretty quiet and the modular cables help keep the mess away.
UncleDavid218 Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Already sold the GameXStream so that's not too much of an option lol Dan, is this the PSU you're talking about? If so that's more than I wanted to spend but honestly I would still buy it. The Corsair is really tempting because how quiet it's supposed to be. But at the same time my case is so big and since the top and bottom are seperated there is MORE than enough room to hide cables. red930 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I wasn't thinking of the Quad version, apparently Newegg doesn't have the other one. But in looking for the standard 750 (which apparently isn't available anymore), I found this. Check the price. http://www.pcpower.com/products/viewproduct.php?show=S75Q Take that Newegg... Anyways, I don't think its worth getting a Quad version since it's pretty dumb to buy a pair of cards more than powerful enough for most anything by themselves, but whatever. You've got more than enough room to hide an extra pair of cords.
UncleDavid218 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 That's the same one at Newegg lol

UncleDavid218 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Oh haha I didn't even notice the price on the side Consider it ordered! (after I read some reviews lol)
red930 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Well think about it first, you don't really need that much power (probably). I like how on one thread I recommend a cheaper motherboard, yet in this one I recommend a more expensive power supply....I guess in this case I really feel if I were building a new computer I'd get this one though, sort of like when I bought the 510ASL over a year ago - more than good enough I didn't have to upgrade when a bunch of other people had to trade in their Powerstreams. Granted, it costs more now, its up to you. $50 more than the Corsair and $30 more than the 610...probably worth it. BTW, i purchased my 510 ASL through their website, I wouldn't worry too much about not using Newegg.
UncleDavid218 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Well let's say I buy the Corsair and end up getting a super duper video card setup that it won't power I sell it, loose over $30 at least (likely more than $50) and buy the PCP&C So yeah, in the long run it makes a lot more sense. ooztuncer Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 well i also have a m12-700 which I like it very much and I spent literally hundreds of hours to decide a darn psu - reading all reviews and many threads in different forums. Here are my recommendations: corsair hx620 silverstone zeus 650 or 850w seasonic m12-600 or 700 zippy 850w (gamer edition)
