puzzled Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 In the BIOS you can control when a specific fan comes on, turns off, & hits maximum speed. If a fan uses a thermistor, does that override the maximum speed setting in the BIOS? I'm looking for some quiet high CFM fans that I can fully control with the BIOS, & not have a thermistor slow down the maximum flow of the fan. Devil 07 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 For the most part yes, but the thermistor can't let the power thru to the fan if it's not there because of a BIOS setting. If the BIOS is set for max power to the fan(12V) then the thermistor would have the final control over fan speed. If BIOS fan power is set to 10V, the thermistor can't make up those 2V. The thermistor would just control the voltage coming from that fan header to that fan. I wouldn't run a bunch of fans off of your motherboard. Get a fan speed controller and power them directly from your PSU. You don't want a $3 fan to be the reason your motherboard died. puzzled Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I replaced the quiet low flowing fans with Silenx iXtrema Pro fans. 14db/32CFM on the 80mm's, & 14db/74CFM on the 120mm's.
