Every time I think I have a clue about what I am building, I stumble across a thread like this and realize it does not matter how many vowels I buy, I still cannot solve the puzzle.

So, tell me, is it the Southbridge or the Northbridge that is most in need of aftermarket cooling on a 965 board? I have a Jing Ting Rev 2 that shipped this afternoon, and I've been patting myself on the back telling myself how easily it is going to replace the Northbridge on my new build 965P-DS3. Am I going to have to squeeze it under my 7900GS instead?

Sorry about the thread hijack...

Taking the southbridge off of my DS3 was a miserable experience. I was also dead close to having the zalman 32 passive copper cooler hit a bunch of crap on the board.

Not to mention the cooler was practically glued to the board. I needed plyers to rip it off, it took a while for me to take it off.

If the southbridge isn't overheating, I'd keep the stock cooling IMO.

whovous, don't worry about the hijack...i am glad you asked, i was curiouse if i needed to change it. wevsspot, i was thinking of putting the h5 on my south bridge, but maybe i buy both the 90 degree one and the straight one and install them on the n/s bridge. do you know of a fan that can attach to the both of them?

You can attach any 80mm fan, the HR05 comes with zip ties specifically for this.

you know i was reading the manfactures web page about that, saw the zip ties and didn't think that is what they are suggesting to use to install a fan. how chinsy!

the picture of wevsspot's case shows that if i use that heat sink on the n bridge there is no way a fan can be attached. maybe the s bridge has room.

is there any other suggestions for a heat sink i can use on either the n/s bridge that has a fan???

Well it really depends on how big your CPU heatsink is. I'm not sure about the one in your sig, but here's a (not so great) pic of my setup:

The Tuniq allows enough clearance for me to stick a fan on there. I can't stick one onto the southbridge HR05 though because of my sound and gfx cards.
