regan1985 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 i have a dfi rdx200 and it doesnt have the best raid controler to say the least, plus its only sata1, so i have been looking into getting a sata2 raid controler via a pci ex x1 socket, just dont know if my raid will be better performance or not, what are your views!cheers
Silkie Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 It depends on the card really. for a 1x slot IIRC you'll be limited to 2 ports but two big fast sata 2 drives on a Sata 2 controller should be enough for most people. Go for a good brand if you can like Adaptec which I can recomend as after problems with a ULI onboard I switched to one of their cards instead. It seems about the same in performance terms but a little extra time during boot for the cards BIOS to detect.
CPDMF Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Highpoint makes the t2300 1X PCI-E card in a 4 port sata2, you will be limited to 250MB/sec using the 1X but that really only comes into effect with burst speeds of sata2. I used the highpoint on my CFX3200 to get around the ULI bug.
Lenny_Nero Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I have had quite a few Highpoint cards over the years (none SATA) and they have worked very well (even being able to boot from some), the only thing I have found is that PCI:e are often twice the price if not more As for the speed thing I know that you do not loose anything with a PCI ATA card over a PATA, the SATA thing 'might' loose some burst speed, but these are just what I call salesman numbers as that is only the cache speed (max 8/16/32 MB).
