hehe, yea NYC is cool. I want to check it out some day.

I passed through NYC one night in Feb. 79.

I'd taken a bus across the border from Montreal, to begin a trip hitchhiking to Florida (and eventually all the way to Arizona... seemed like a good idea at the time).

Three things I remember distincly about that night. Meeting a pretty little french girl on the bus (whom I eventually followed all the way to Arizona:rolleyes: ), fresh pretzels outside the bus station (who knew they came in anything other than a bag?), and some poor guy being beaten into the terrazzo floor of the bus station, by two cops/(security guards?), screaming at him to "get up! get up!" every time they hit him with their billy clubs.

Only one night, but one I'll never forget.

'course things might have changed since then.

i live in a relatively small town, Aberdeen Washington, which thru the 70's-90's was considered a logging community. we are located on the port of Grays Harbor- which was even more famous for it's boarding houses- and it's whore houses back in the olden days. funny thing tho- some things never change. the main drag here in town still has hookers in numerous quantities. in fact my wife and i enjoy yelling hooker! at women we pass driving thru town on a daily basis! you'd think we were in the red light district of seattle or tacoma it's so common here, and Aberdeen is a town of roughly 40k people.

lately, big industry has taken a foothold here- a biodeisel plant is going up and many other businesses as well.

probably the most famous persons from here were the band Nirvana, Kurt Cobain's mom's house was 2 houses down from one of my best friends. we used to hang out there in the garage days. of course they didn't gain their fame until they hit the seattle scene- but like i said it's a small town-

Don't forget: WVU's former slogan "Success Expect It" was revamped to "Asbestos Expect It" because asbestos had to be removed from a lot of the buildings (even newer ones such as the law school constructed in 1974)

Hmmm...Ames.

Spose I'll have to pull the "invented the digital computer" card while I'm here.

Or I could go by the town I went to High School in, Maquoketa. Only person I'm aware is semi-famous from there is Sage Rosenfels, who also played QB here at Iowa State, and is currently a backup QB for the Texans if I remember correctly...

Or I suppose I could go with Dubuque, since thats where I was born. I'm sure there's a few more names from there but the only one off the top of my head is the woman that played Captain Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager. Yeah, call me a nerd.

Angus Young member of AC/DC has a house in my hometown Aalten.

His wife comes from my town.

He is building a new house and some people complained it is too big and wouldn't fit in the neighborhood.

Last week it was big news on several gossip TV programs and some newspapers

And they are afraid of noise nuisance because there will be a sound studio underground.

Bulls**t, it will be complete sound isolated.

They should be proud that he lives here.

Loughborough's claims to fame mainly centers round its University, famous ex-pupils have include former England Rugby coach Sir Clive Woodward. L'boro is also a home to Paula Radcliffe, womens marathon world record holder (2:15:25).

My home town North Walsham, Norfolk claim to fame is that the young Horatio Nelson went to school at my now previous College/Sixth form, oh and every single pub in the town was granted a 24-hour licence to sell alcohol!
