ooeric Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Ooeric is dead wrong my fellow AMD lover. Get yourself an Opteron 185 939 socket and stick with the stuff you got boy Newegg is putting out CCBBE steppings as we speak from their New Jersey warehouse, and that'd save you some serious money just upgrading your processor and video card. Get yourself an 8800GTS and an Opty 185 and be happy lol charmed.. you honestly dont know me then if you loooked at the forsale forums back then i went thru 9 x2/optys. so people have to stop telling me im wrong like im a noob. you talk about using a 185. thats dead butt stupid in my opinion. when a 120$ x2 oc can rip it. im guessing you havent tried x2/opty running 3g+ with your ram running in ddr600+ bandwidth. oh ya. read my sig people. thats just how crap amd is compared to intel atm
Coors Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Intel is the way to go right now. Kinda dumb to be loyal to one company when the other has the better product. Angry has a good post from way back when on just this subject. It is smarter as a consumer to buy the better performing and better priced product. And right now that product hands down is Intel. Outlander Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I may put a x2 4600 or a 165 in this rig. In the sign, and a better gpu and ram.I need a Evercool VC-RC vga cooler for the northbridge andthe egg is out of stock. Bummer! Go check SVC, they have the fan in stock. I don't think you should do this AM2 upgrade unless you want to have two seperate functioning computer. Even then I would wait for AM2+ motherboards appear so you can upgrade to AM2+ chips like Agena and be able to use features like HT3.0 if you don't want to go the Intel route. If I were you, I would do a modest CPU and GPU upgrade (Opty 165 - 175, 7900GS/X1950Pro, etc.) for now and wait for AM2+ if you really want to stick with AMD. If you really want max performance right now (even bang per buck) with overclocking, you cannot ignore C2D. It's the champ right now. However even if you do want to go ahead and build an AM2 system, as people have already mentioned, some of your selection is not ideal, especially the power supply. I think power supply is the last thing you'd want to cheap out if you're overclocking. I would also probably try for a Brisbane ... some of the new year stepping seems to be decent. Good luck. shadrack Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Wow All this info is Welcome: I sure appreciated the different options and points of view! And have to admit I sure need to do a few reviews of this sys I have chanced the PS to a 650W Aptevia. The SYS in the sign now has 4400 Toledo x2 And I have a FX60 on the way. The Ram and GPU will be next and the AM2 SYS is Rocking On!! as we speak! New PS DOA RMA Bummer!!! but today we play! So Far I dont see any problems, That MB supports 667 ram And I rushed this sys and Bought 675 ram But I think the MB has under clocked it to 667 speeds. Just glad theres no conflicts Hay is for cows and If this sys Makes it a month it will have Payed the bill for the Hay! As I traded it for a large Stack of the Stuff! My cows can eat Half of that stack in a month... But I am willing to bet you the Farm that SYS will be rocking for Many Moons!
