UPDATE: Feb 3rd, 2007:

We've updated the co-op server to 1.04

We are also using Teamspeak:

216.86.152.226:8890

Please use the "Titan Quest - Mature Only" channel

Under Settings choose Options.

On the Sound devices tab make sure your using your "real" sound devices and not the default OS capture device.

Click on the Bandwidth tab and set the Upload to 32kpbs and the Download to 64kbps

Also, do us all a favor and use a hotkey for PUSH TO TALK as the teamspeak server will kick-ban you if you do not (and if the server doesn't, we will)

Also in the Settings - Options - Sound Notifications you want to check that box Disable All Sounds so the 'announcer' voice shuts the heck up ;)

UPDATED HAMACHI INFO:

Network name: DIY-Street Vegas (must be EXACTLY like this!)

Network pass: g@m3r

Ok everyone, we've all updated to 1.05 patch and the server is also running the RS Vegas map pack that can be found here:

I'm gonna try this out, and you may feel free to join me (or anyone else that is playing I guess)

Here's what we'll try

Rainbow Six: Vegas for the PC finally has great co-op play. Since I run a dedicated server on the LAN, and because I have a couple local friends that like to play, we prefer to play over Hamachi.

We've found that playing certain games over Hamachi (we first discovered this with Titan Quest) is a much better experience than over the net, as Hamachi allows direct connection via peer-to-peer (can eliminate some of the packet bounce across the internet).

I also allows me and momma and/or any of my lab pc's to all connect to a game that also allows internet players (normally games are either LAN or Internet, and trying to get 3 players from a LAN into an internet game can result in bad behavior).

Anyway, Hamachi is a free virtual private LAN. This means that if ExRoadie in Mississippi, Thunda in NY, and I are all on Hamachi, we can play games via LAN instead of trying to find games on the internet. This also makes our games private from everyone else, as we don't show up on the internet (ie, our machines think we are on a LAN!).

Go there and download it. They do have premium versions also that have benefits. We've never needed to go premium yet so we'll stick with the free version.

We've had great success playing Tony Hawk, Need for Speed, Titan Quest, Unreal Tournament, etc together (me, momma, and more than a few internet friends from all over the world).

Once you install it, make sure you disable vulnerable windows services (it will give you this option), and then login.

Once you are logged in, you want to go to the triangle-looking button on the bottom right, and Join Existing Network.

Another thing you might want to do (especially if you are a host!) is the open UDP Port 32804 to allow incoming and outgoing connection via Hamachi. You also need to tell Hamachi to use UDP port 32804 (it's in the Preferenes/Options). Hamachi is encrypted on both ends so no real worries (if someone REALLY wants into your network, they gonna get in regardless).

The DIY Server (for games my gameserver will host) runs 32804 UDP so that there's very little direct-connection problems. (and yes, the gameserver has all filesharing disabled)

do not put Hamachi on your "internet sharing" machines, or any server in your network that has open file shares or else everyone on the LAN will have access just like they were on your local LAN, or your shares will stop working when you choose to disable vulnerable windows services....

Anyway, I'm gonna run a co-op Rainbow Six: Vegas game for up to 4 people (we'll try 4 since I'm only on a 512k upload cable connection). Feel free to join if you want. I cannot guarantee it will be up all the time. You should check the DIY Gaming Clan thread for my Xfire contact (and other users' Xfire contacts as they might run a game too) so you can see me playing and join up.

Also, feel free to try running your own server (I HIGHLY suggest using a dedicated machine to run a dedicated server for BEST performance in the game and then connect to it via your gaming rig....Vegas is a beast of a game so trying to host on the machine you are playing on is just not a good idea) and let us know in this thread how it goes!

updated the Hamachi server info (I've purchased a couple of premium licenses for it) in the first post

Here are the games we are playing at the moment, in no particular order:

Rainbow Six: Vegas (co-op)

Tony Hawk Underground 2

Armada Online (alpha mmo, 2d space rpg type, pretty fun and silly)

possibly others like old Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 and maybe newer games too, who knows. Got a game that is fun co-op or vs? Let us know and we'll check it out ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

I just installed Hamachi and Teamspeak. If anyone wants to play something I'd like to try them out. I have Titan Quest, FlatOut 2, BF2, or COD2 if anyone wants to get a game started. I might also need some help to see if I set them up right.
