phone & camera

I've recently been thinking about taking some snapshots, and up till now have been using a cheap little 35mm point-and-shoot. I'm thinking now about going digital, and since I don't want to carry a separate phone AND camera, I could use some advice about phone & camera combinations.

I currently use a Sprint PCS cell phone that has a camera built in, but to my mind it has a couple problems:

[1] It is very low resolution and takes pictures that are inferior and grainy.

[2] I am unable to transfer the pictures directly to my computer, but I believe that the only way to get them out of the camera is to use a Sprint service for which they charge extra.

So, I've been reading that there is a new generation of camera phones that have about 3.2M and allow for a USB connection from the phone/camera to the computer. I think they're pretty expensive, but does anyone know about these, or have any experience?

all comments apreciated.

You have two options really, an upgrade to a camera phone such as the a900m which comes with the USB data cable, or you could get a data pilot kit for your phone.

The only reason I know this is that our shop is an authorized sprint dealer.

I personally have the a900m and it is a great phone, the only problem being the limited bettery life (about 3 hours in camera mode full time 40 hours in call or stand by). It also features an mp3 player and a camcorder.

actually I use mine for making sure the "geniuses" who do our parts pickup at the school get the right parts...started that after I ordered a cat5e spool and got a spool of 4 conductor telco wire...

lol.

Camera phone is good for youngsters, the graininess and the noise can hide acne and blemishes well.

Well, after seeing these replies, it sounds like most opinions are that the cameras in cellphones are not even useful for taking snapshots, which is what I want to use it for. Guess I'll wait and see if these devices can be improved to the point where I can use them for snaps.

thanks, everyone, for the feedback!
