djgizmo Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 This is my 1st experienced my 1st no boot situation while trying to OC. I bumped the chipset voltage / ldt volts 1 notch each (think .1v) seemed to start to boot, then did the typical reboot. This time however, no video, no post... nothing. So I powered off the system, cleared cmos, then powered back on. Still nothing. Did it for 15 min. Still nothing. Left it over night. (6 hours) still nothing. Going to leave it while I'm at work, est 12 hours till I get home. I didn't pull the battery, but I guess i'll try that if this doesn't work. The on board pc speaker is enabled already. Any other suggestions? System is in my sig. EDIT: Now I'm getting scared. I've just tried this (Full 6 hour clear w/ battery out) and all I get are the 4 LED lights. They are lit up from power on. I pray that I didn't fry anything. Even tried booting w/o the video card (yes, I DID turn off all the power before removing anything) and still no beep codes. Just the 4 LED lights. Hope the computer gods aren't trying to torture me as this could end up being my worst nightmare. I'm going to try leaving it unplugged and battery out for 24 hours and hope this works. I've unplugged everything except my video card, cpu, 1 slot of memory (top orange slot) and power, and still same issue. Anyone else ever have this issue with a DFI board? Coors Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 This happened to me one time. I ended up ordering a spare bios chip from Tmod assuming I screwed up the bios and it fixed it for me. It also allowed me to try a new bios(704-2bta).
thefabe Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Hey djgizmo have you tried taking it back to the minimum build? you know 1 stick of ram, video card, ps2 keyboard. If your using a USB keyboard try using aps2 if you have one sometimes the usb will caudse a no boot issue. bios chip Tmod biosmedic.com
djgizmo Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 So by changing a voltage i could have screwed up the bios? I mean I could understand if I flashed the bios... but i didn't. It was already at the 04/06 bios.
djgizmo Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Yep, did that this morning, 1 stick in ram, vc, ps2 keyboard, cpu, power. Still no go. I'm HOPING, and praying that I didn't fry the chipset, but I don't see how I could as I just upgraded the heatsink to an evercool VE and I just moved it up 1 notch (.1v) Hey djgizmo have you tried taking it back to the minimum build? you know 1 stick of ram, video card, ps2 keyboard. It was already at the 04/06 bios. I guess it is possible. When mine got screwed up if I remember correctly I turned the mobo on while the cmos jumper was in the clear position and it would not boot afterwards very similar to how you discribe (4 leds, no video, no nothing). The new bios chip fixed it. If no one else has any other suggestions you could try flashing your bios. I had never done it before at the time and took the easy route and just bought a new chip. red930 Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Make sure you are doing a proper clear cmos as per Ex Roadie, here
HITandRUN Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Make sure you are doing a proper clear cmos as per Ex Roadie, here Agreed! A spare BIOS chip comes also handy just to rule that possibility out!
djgizmo Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Yep, done that, waited for 6 hours, still could not boot, just now waiting for the 24 hours to be up. Does anyone have a pic of what the bios chip looks like. I 'believe' it should be the square chip that looks like it should be replaceable, but I'd rather be sure before I have at replacing it. Been a while since I've replaced any bios chips. Make sure you are doing a proper clear cmos as per Ex Roadie, here
Coors Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I don't have any pics but yes it is the square chip that looks like it can be replaced. It is between the cmos battery and the sil sata ports. It's also got a green mark on one of the corners.

djgizmo Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Don't think I can flash if I'm not able to post. How much was your bios chip? The new bios chip fixed it. If no one else has any other suggestions you could try flashing your bios.
