Case Temps too high???

So...

I have a bad feeling about my case temps. I have a Silverstone TJ02 and I'm using a Thermalright SI-120 to cool my Opty 170. My idle temp is 38c and load temp is 50c. This is with the chip at 2.6ghz at stock voltage.

I've already cut out the stamped grills in the case and replaced them with wire guards. My cable management is OK in my opinion. Everything is sleeved and tied to the side of the case. I have a 120mm 70cfm fan in front and a 120mm 90cfm fan in back (along with the power supply). I've even moved the hard drives to the upper bays to keep them away from the intake fan.

It seems like my heat sink is not getting any cool air and just recycling warm air. I don't want to cut the side window if possible, but it may be the only way. Is there a reliable way to check the temperature of the inside of the case? I can post pictures if it will help.

Thanks in advance...

Could it be poor contact with the heatsink, try a reseat with only a very small amount of as5??

I agree with Splave...it sounds as you need to redo your thermal interface material..

Here is a link to the Arctic Silver site on how to do it properly.. Make sure you clean the top of the CPU and the HSF with 91% alcohol.

Your temps are not really what I would describe as terrible for Air cooling. Your Max caseT is given by AMD as between 49-65C, so don't freak out at 50C..start worrying at 55C

Maybe I should edit my original post, or maybe I'm not understanding your answer about case temps. My CPU temps are 38c at idle and 50c at load. I was thinking that the temperature in the case around the CPU is too high. I don't want to go over 50c for my CPU temp, and that's keeping me from pushing the chip harder.

Reseting the heat sink is worth another try.

I don't believe you are going to get any better temps with air cooling and your RIG OC'ed to 2.73 ghz..You might get a couple of degrees lower after you redo your TIM, but until you go to H2O cooling or better(phase change or liquid nitrogen) there won't be a major drop especially under load..

You probably would have done better with a CPU cooler that had a copper base as copper does conduct heat far better than aluminum.

You can add a cooler to the case side panel(requires case modification in most cases) and direct it to the CPU

Take a look in the OCDB and see what temps others are running when they are pushing their Opterons to get a feel for the norm.

A couple of things. How much clearance is there between the CPU HSF and the side of the case? Also, what happens to temps if you take the side of the case off? Lastly, what is the cfm of the fan on the SI-120?
