NF590 SLI needs some love DFI

The official bios is a bit buggy, why are there two 2.0 volt choices for the ram?

Why no memory test option?

When it boots it even says hit ESC to skip mem test. :confused:

 

Need more ram dividers also, and the beta bios, is it ever going official?

 

Drivers. How about some updated drivers, the chipset drivers are from last June, Audio driver to fix EAX problems.

 

There's only a handful of choices for this board.

 

Built many rigs, but this one has taken more hours to get up and running than all the rest put together.

I'm still having problems with boot problems, freezing at the windows screen, random restarts, crashing in games.

 

And I'm not seeing any real performance gains over my LP nF4 SLI-DR 4600x2 and 2 gig of PC4000 OCZ mem.

The BFG 7900GTX cards don't seem to benifit from the 2 full 16x PCIe slots on the NF590.

I'm about to go back to LP nF4 SLI-DR with a ton of bios versions to choose from and drivers.

I really want to use the NF590 as my gaming rig, I put so much work into it and time.

 

Just put in an SB Audigy 2 ZS and can now use EAX in BF2.

 

Anyone going to mod a bios for this board?

I re-sleeved the PSU and changed all the white molex and other connectors.

And sleeved every cable, made up some custom cables and just put so much into this build, but it's really . me off that it's not running right.

 

Any help would be extremely appreciated. :angel:

One of the 2.0v ram setting is just a typo of course its really 2.1v. Officially the latest AMD NF590 chipset drivers are dated June 28, 2006 version 9.35 and there are some newer ones version 9.53 which Nvidia only updated the Intel chipsets but install fine on this board which I installed.

 

As for EAX problem, thats Realtek's problem, they need to fix it.

Well it was this board or the Asus Crosshair which I put back in the box since ASSus are just FOS these days and support jack.

Stevie Wonder could have designed a better layout!

What a cheap POS and I have to buy a special bios chip to support the 4600x2 I have. Buy it? Asus is full of tards.

There is currently no consumer video card available that requires more then x8 speed. Your not going to see any increase in performance since your card can't even saturate the bus at x8.

As noted above there is no reason for this to be a requirement at present when selecting a motherboard.

Just felt that I had to tell you the rig looks awesome.

I can see a lot of TLC went into the build.

 

But I think the other posters may have already made it clear that your expectations may have been too high.

The familiar LanParty NF4 series will all the bioses, tweaks, and two years of experience is pretty hard to beat.

But while it may not be the best, I still like this board.

It's well made, pretty and does what it is supposed to do.

 

If you get real down on the rig, feel free to send it to me and I'll keep an eye on it for you

Thanks man, that means alot to me, because I really worked on this and it still needs a few minor fixes besides the bug tweaking.

 

I just played BF2 online for about an hour with fraps going.

Everything pretty much cranked up in the nvidia display settings and running the game at 1280x1024 with high settings.

For some reason it looks better than the higher rez's as it's not as sharp. :confused:

 

I'm a bit OC'ed at 2.5Ghz and pushing the Corsair 800 to 845 with pretty tight timings.

 

Ran on a 64 player map with about 20 peeps and fraps reported 80 to 85 FPS.

I think the yellow slots helped and going back to the official bios.

 

Temps were fine all around and the new sound card may have helped with the crashing and freezing.

 

Would like to see 2.8 Ghz out of this, but if games run maxed out at high FPS, why bother.

 

Yeah I was expecting 10,000 3dmarks with very little tweaking, but I'm close enough.

To the OP...you rig looks nice. We have similar components.

 

I was a little dismayed by the lack of NF590 info on here when I joined up, but things are gettign better. Unfortunately, it seems to be boot up issues and funky BIOS problems more than success stories. I should have written down what I did to get past the initial start up hurdles I had with this board so I could help out more, but I tend to just roll through things until I get them working.

 

I would like to see a little more BIOS support for the NF590, and a problem I inquired about a while ago that I have with the 233Mhz memory divider.

 

Oh well, I am sure in time the answers I seek shall come along. Until then I will continue to tinker and play with settings.

 

Also to the OP...are you trying for 12k 3Dmarks in 05 or 06? If 05, you should be able to get there at stock speeds, I hit 12K pretty easily at 2.4 Ghz, and I am running a 4200+, not a 4600+ like you are.

Heh, that score was at 2872MHz DDR2 800 mem and a pair of 7900GTX OC cards.

And it was buggy at that speed...

Also, that was with the old version of 3dmark 06 before the patch if that makes a difference.

 

Thing is I got a score of 8964 on a skt 939 3800x2 and 2 7900 GT's.

And another problem with these mobos is that many of them can not go very high in HTT. I cant go far over 280 and seen some reviews that had same problems. It is not good because I am almost forced to buy a more expensive CPU that would have a higher multiplier to reach high speeds. I cant buy a CPU with a multiplier 9 because I cant clock it higher than 2,6GHz. Managed to reach HTT300 but with very very crapy RAM settings.
