VGA Ceck fail?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

i have a problem (after over one year of running system):

The system crashes (Windows XP) an now it hangs at the VGA ceck.

Means, the system hangs at 2 LEDs on.

Ok, i canged the VGA card (an old 6600gt instead of the x1950pro).

Same problem.

Power off and unplugged for an hour, new try - same problem.

The LED says VGA (2 LED on), but it can't be the video adapter.

What could it be? RAM? Chipset?

Please help.

tom

It's not that it is broke so much as may be under powered for the X1900 and the increased Vcore and vdimms your trying to run. Once you get your new Ram try 1 stick in the orange slot nearest the edge of the board, It is possible you can get your system to run by adjusting the Ram timinings manualy since you state that the psu is only 2 months old and the problem also ocuurs with a 6600 gt.

next update:

made a long cmos clear (8 hours)

only connect the psu with the board (24-pin, 4-pin, hard drive and floppy drive connector)

insert geforce leadtec 6600gt tdh in upper pcie16 slot

insert 1 new vitesta ddr500+ 512mb in orange slot (near cpu)

=> 3 LED on

insert 2 vitesta ddr500+ 512mb in orange slots

=> 3 LED on

insert 1 old corsair xms3200 512mb in orange slot

=> 3 LED on

insert 2 old corsair xms3200 512mb in orange slots

=> 3 LED on

i think ram is ok

whats bout the cpu? when crashed, 4 LED lit?

i'll try this afternoon my psu on an other pc (sock 462 asus)

so it's the psu or the board?

if the psu works on the other pc, should i send the board to rma or first buy a new psu?

3 led = ram, you said it, are you putting a single stick in the orange slot furthest from the cpu, it wont boot in either slot closed to the cpu?????

If psu works in another system its not relevant, there is a good chance its underpowered for your system, X1950 needs a hell of a lot of power. If that is the case and psu is not powering comoponents then a chance the ram is not getting enough juice either hence the 3 led.

Your psu is not listed on the DFI User Recommended PSU LIst though there are enermax there......so i had a little look at your psu specs and it lists +12V@22amp it also says on the DFI User Recommended PSU LIst These quality brands offer "known good" PSU's, however not every power supply they offer will meet your needs, be especially careful to make sure that the +12V rail(s) offer a Minimum of +12V@26A for Single Video Card Systems

If i was you i would be looking at borrowing a PSU from the list from someone to test it out......i dont think i would be rma'ing the mobo just yet.
