ctay Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I'm just got 2 x 320GB SeaGate drives for XMas and I have been trying to set up a RAID 0 array for 3 days now. When installing Windows, I use the F6 disk (I tried the drivers from the 6.53 pack and the disk that came w/ my board), it loads all of the drivers, gets to the point where it says "Setup is now starting windows" and hangs. I also created a slipstream disk with the drivers preloaded and it still does the same thing. I just updated my BIOS to OCZ Tony's 04/06 release, and it changes nothing. I've been able to install Windows on both drives, just not when they are in a RAID array. I've also tried yelling at them and hitting them..... but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Let me know if you need more info. Thanks in advance, ctay
loggan26 Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Did you follow the Build Guide.... Are all 4 PSU connectors plugged into the board.... Have you ran memtest on each stick of ram in the orange slot furthest from the cpu? Have you tried the install with ones stick of ram if it passed memtest? DId you load both drivers when asked at the F6 prompt? If there are jumpers on the drives remove them. Are you attached to Sata headers 1-4 ie Nvidia? thefabe Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Unfortunately the power supply you have choosen doesn't work well with these boards and youare most likely experiencing instability issues due to the power supply. This is what is causing you to be unable to install windows when both of the drives are drawing power. You should get one of the recommended list asap. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...ed+power+supply
disturbed6dws Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I never had good luck with drivers included with the motherboard - what I do is go on nvidia.com and I download the latest nvidia nforce4 drivers - then I extract the RAID/SATA drivers, put them on a floppy and it always works
old_geekster Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Here is a link to assist you in setting up RAID: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16557 Follow it and you should have success. Good luck!
ctay Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but the board was down for a bit. Did you follow the Build Guide.... Yes, on the latest install I did. 5. Yes. Even tried slipstreaming them onto an SP2 install. 6. They're gone now. 7. 1 & 2 to be exact. thefabe Would love to. No cash for it. The PSU can't be that horrible can it? disturbed6dws I had read somewhere online (not DFI-Street, should have known better...) that 6.53 was the best pack. Tried the latest drivers and got past the "Setup is starting Windows" pause. But its still not quite right. More on that in a second. old_geekster Thanks, but I'm now stuck past the "You can figure out the rest from here" part. So I tried everything that everyone suggested. I don't know who's idea got me this far, but thanks. It went thru the text and GUI install no problems, but as soon as it did the next reboot, it loaded the XP screen, then quickly goes into a MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION bsod and resets. I plugged my IDEs back in and cloned the install to my 60gb drive. As long as I select the 60gb drive from the boot menu, it loads fine. XP was showing the drives as 2 independent drives each with a 50gb partition (the size of the partition I created on the array for XP) with the rest being unallocated. I installed the nForce drivers and now everything is appearing as it should (50gb partition, ~550gb unallocated). I think I'm just going to clone everything back to the RAID array and see if anything catches fire. But that can wait until tomorrow. Any one have any ideas for me? I really appreciate the help. Thanks again everyone! ctay

woz_mann Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I would suggest using the RAID drivers from the DFI site over the ones from Nvidia's site. I know some people have had issues with NV's drivers instead of DFI's
ctay Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Ok, I went ahead with the clone. The RAID array will only boot if I select it from the Boot Menu when I first start the computer. In BIOS the boot order is as follows: Raid Array 60gb 160gb Bootable Add In Cards. How do I set it up to automatically boot from the RAID array? When I first cloned the XP setup to my 60gb drive, it still tried to boot from the RAID array. I don't understand why this has changed now..... I'm almost there..... Thanks guys!!!
