des_the_cat Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Back from a week in Playa del Carmen. The box was powered down in usual manner and was off for a week. Now, when turned on, all four LEDs blink rapidly more than once a second with a blinking amber light. Different than the cold boot problems we've had before. The build last spring was a prolonged process but it has worked well since. Tried to reset CMOS for an hour. Thanks for any help. des_the_cat Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Appreciate your reply and patience. Tried searching and reading, but still in vacation mode I guess. Without the step by step instructions provided by members here last spring, this system never would have been operational. Will do the prolonged CMOS clear. thanks again and sorry for the duplicate posts.
thefabe Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I guess my comment came out wrong I wasn't trying to give you a hard time about posting, I was just writing outloud while wondering why these boards are doing this. Let us know what is up after the clear.
des_the_cat Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 No problem. I just know everyone gets tired of post after post about the same question. Since we got this system going, it has run been nearly continuously with only an occasional night off operating right at 38 degress C handling mostly audio mixing and video gaming smoothly - almost flawlessly. The plan was to update to a 8800gtx card soon, but if it's going to be another month of frustration getting it going again, no thanks. I will definitely update you after 24 hours. thefabe Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Well ya know these things do break and usualy don't give much notice. I just don't understand why it is that after they have sat off for a period of time they don't restart so easily. I know mine runs 24/7 and the one time I shut it down for a week I had to clear the CMOS to get it to boot again. It is almost like they have some kind of heat related burn in and once they cool off entirely and the capasitors drain down they need some sweet talking to want to run again. We'll see how th clear goes for you.
red930 Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 90% of the time it's the power supply causing problems after a prolonged shutdown.
thefabe Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 90% of the time it's the power supply causing problems after a prolonged shutdown. That's pretty much what I figured these power supplies really do put in the work. I have had a bunch of them apart and the heat alone has to wear on the components much less the fact they are required to put out high voltages over long periods of time. It's really quite amazing they don't fail much more frequently.
des_the_cat Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 90% of the time it's the power supply causing problems after a prolonged shutdown. Does this mean if the 24 hour CMOS clear doesn't work, the PSU requires replacement?
des_the_cat Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Had to cut the 24 hour clear to 20 hours. Followed the "no boot" clear instructions. I still have all the mobo LEDs blinking in addition to the the three LEDs on the power supply blinking (flashing). The CMOS jumper is back in the Clear position, the battery out and the PSU unplugged. I can let it sit for the full twenty four hours until tomorrow night, if you think it's worth a shot. I seem to remember the problem I had before was 4 LEDs glowing continuously and this everything blinking issue now seems different. Am I wrong about this? Thanks for any thoughts and/or advice. loggan26 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 PSU im guessing as well led's blinking on the psu itself is not a good thing, usually rma time.... Logan
red930 Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Contact OCZ about that PSU. Ask if it's part of the upgrade replacement program if they still run it.
