It's a matter of perspective...

The Associated Press released these two stories less than 12 hours apart.

The first...

Dec 30, 7:22 PM EST

AP Poll: Americans Optimistic for 2007

the second...

Dec 31, 7:12 AM (ET)

Poll: Americans See Gloom, Doom in 2007

Now, I can see two reporters having different stories but if you pay attention to the qualifiers at the end of the story it gets interesting.

------

Story one...

The AP-AOL News poll of 1,000 adults was conducted by telephone from Dec. 12-14 by Ipsos, an international public opinion research company. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.

AP writer Natasha Metzler, AP's Manager of News Surveys Trevor Tompson and AP News Survey Specialist Dennis Junius contributed to this story.

------

Story two...

The telephone poll of 1,000 adults was conducted Dec. 12-14 by Ipsos, an international polling firm. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus three percentage points.

AP Manager of News Surveys Trevor Tompson, AP News Survey Specialist Dennis Junius and AP writer Kasie Hunt contributed to this story.

------

So, who do you believe? Since both stories are based upon the same poll results how can there be two completely different stories.

And people wonder why they're called the Drive-by Media?!?!
