Slow boot

Recommended Posts

Hi I have been setting up a adsl wireless router and when it is plugged into the network socket and reboots it is very slow at a point where it is doing something/looking for something and can't find it, possibley with a mac address.

Looked in the bios for the network options and I can't seem to find much on it other than the on off bit. I'm a bit vague but will add more detail as and when i can.

Thanks

It seems to be taking it's time on the DHCP and or client mac address. Any clues as to whats up and how to fix, is it the router, guessing it is.

I would pull everything off the board including the video card, sound card, and drives. I would go back to basics. Start at square one. Since video is already built on the RS482 use the on board graphics to rule out any conflicts. Also as you know the RS482 has onboard sound as well so leaving out the creative sound card will eliminate any possible conflicts there as well.

What I am suggesting is that you start by testing the board with 1 Stick of memory and the processor only and see how fast the board boots. Then add your items like your hard drives , video card, one by one and reboot the motherboard to see if one of them is causing your slowdown issue. Make sure you disable your on board sound if necessary if using an add in sound card.

Hope this helps

deadeye, your system is trying to boot from the network. The short fix is to unplug your network cable while it is booting. For the long fix, in the BIOS under "Advanced BIOS Features" set "First Boot Device" to "Hard Disk", set "Second Boot Device", "Third Boot Device", and "Boot Other Device" to "Disabled". That should fix it. If you want you can set other things just make sure to disable "boot other device" and don't set any network devices as boot devices.
