Black Ice Xtreme III Radiator - How the hell do you put fans on it?

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'm so sick of this crap I'm seriously considering parting out my new liquid setup and selling them...

How the hell do you mount a freakin' fan on this stupid radiator?

And what kinda crap is it that it doesn't come with fans? Esh.

I have fans, but the screws aren't big enough to "thread" the radiator holes, not to mention they're made for a thermaltake radiator and are therefore WAY TOO LONG to use on it.

It came with little weeny screws that won't fit on any fans I have that I know of. Maybe my high speed ones, but I only got 2 of them. I don't know, but damn it, you'd think they'd give you instructions and screws or somethin'. Jeez.

They're sending me a new pump cuz the little red switch thing broke off on mine as soon as I tried to turn it.

I'm probably gonna install it Saturday, leak or no leak, I'd rather have it running and keeping my computer cooler (I'm gonna put the radiator in front of my AC unit and solve any heat issues it may have right away ;)) and having a slow leak problem in one spot that I can put a towel under easily, than sitting in the kitchen on the bar doing nothing.

I'm using 1 1/4" 6-32 machine screws; had to drill out the holes on the Rad a bit to allow the threads to screw in.

Using 3/8" (or 1/4") metal/wood screws is risky because it can easily punch through the rad (at least on the side with the hose barbs).

Im thinking about watercooling in the next few weeks... can someone post an example of a screw you would use?

Im thinking about getting Swiftech's MCR320 with some Yates, Swiftech Apogee and a DDC+Petra's top... Yes, a 120.3 rad because sometime in the future, Im planning on adding my GPU to the loop, so Im going to need more rad.

The MCR320 specs on Jab-tech.com said they are threaded M3.5... whats that? Does mcmaster.com have something I could use to attack Yate Loons?

I have the thicker fans also, I used:

6G x 12mm Self Tappers

M3.5 Is a Metric machine screw (3.5 mm dia). McMaster Carr would certainly sell such screws and Lowe's probably carries them as well.
