Mako3 Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Alright so I built this computer for my neighbors, I mentioned it here: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...highlight=Mako3 When I installed windows I only had the raptor connected and installed windows on only the raptor. Then after windows was installed, I connected the 500GB Caviar. The caviar shows up in the bios (bios has been freezing up when I view the top left selection). But the caviart won't show in my computer. Anyone know the problem? Thanks, Mako3
taowulf Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 Update the BIOS first to at least the 8/28/06 version to correct the freezing problem when viewing the IDE devices on the fist BIOS page. Which controller is it plugged in to? The NVRaid or the SI RAID controller? The SI will default to RAID 5, and would will need to switch it to SATA (I think that is the setting). The NVRaid settings should default to RAID being off. But update the BIOS first if it is freezing and take it from there.
Mako3 Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Alright thanks, Which controller do you suggest, and how should I do it? -Mako3
radodrill Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Your drive may need to be partitioned/formatted (especially if it's a new drive). If you're running Win XP Pro go to the control panel --> Administrative tools --> Computer Management; click on the disk management; the drive should show up here; right-click on it and create a new partition in it. Mako3 Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Alright disk management doesn't show the drive. So I'm going to update the bios and give it another shot. What do you guys recommend if it doesn't show up?
Mako3 Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 So I reflashed the bios, and I formatted the 500GB hdd without the Raptor connected since I already have Windows installed on the raptor. Then after it was formatted I shut it down so it wouldn't install windows. I then reconnected the raptor and tried running it, right after the windows screen went away it came up with "Setup is being restarted." And tried installing windows on the 500GB. How can I set this up, where Windows is on the raptor (primary/master) and I have the 500GB just as a slave. Thanks, Mako3
Booster Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 When you installed windows on your raptor did you install the chipset drivers after making sure you installed the sata drivers? If you did then let windows get installed on the 500gb, connect the raptor drive and see if it sees it from there. Remember there are two different sata controllers on the board and you need to download or install the drivers that came with the mobo for it to be properly detected. Mako3 Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Alright thanks, I think it's working now. The 500GB hdd is now showing up, and I can save on it. Thanks, Mako3
