You didn't happen to play a lot of Diablo 2 for a while did you?

And that computer will be more than they'll ever need I'm sure, but is there any reason you went AMD over Intel?

Edit: That can't be all that close to $3k can it? I'd think Sli 8800GTX's would be possible with that budget...

Thnx guys! Yeah I tried saving them as much money as I could and have the computer still fit their needs. The computer is going to be shared by four family members, but the mother and younger son (age 16) are going to use it the most. The younger son is getting really into gaming as well as computers in general, so he'll like messing around with the TV tuner recording TV shows etc. Next year, he may be taking some video production classes. So I figured he won't want a slow render time, and he's already interested in photoshop.

I tried finding a nice mobo for the core 2 duo or xeon by DFI, and the infinity 975x is alright, does about everything my Ultra-D does. I wanted to get them an amazine mobo. I think I picked everything out pretty well without going over kill, this computer will still be more than what they need.

The only thing they need now is a new printer, and I've been looking at epsons and canons since they have better print quality and inks than HP and brother.

Thanks,

Mako3

P.S. Yes, I did play Diablo 2 for quite some time. Why you ask?

The 'Godliest Build' quote gave you away, just wondering where you got it from. ;)

As for the amazing motherboard thing, how well do they know computers? Even some experienced computer builders/overclockers might not want to deal with all the options the nf590 gives them, so somebody new to it probably doesn't want the headache. Even for yourself, the nf590 has many more options than the Ultra-D has, there is a learning curve to be sure.

In addition, the 975X/G as far as we're concerned has just as high stable overclocks of any Socket 775 board, as in OCDB stable clocks. And to top that, it has taken a lot of abuse by a lot of people and has proven itself to be very hardy. If the neighbor boy really does intend to do video editing or whatever, the Conroe (even an E6300) will smoke the Opteron.

Just a couple things to consider, the AM2 build will be more than enough for them as well I'm sure so its no big deal that it's already ordered....:)

Yeah they don't know really anything about computers, that's why they have me building this computer for them :). Which is also why they have me to help them with the nf590, I'll let this computer break in for about a good 3-4 weeks, than start OC'n it for them, to a safe clock. Going to aim for atleast 2.7Ghz. And you mean the Conroe will smoke the Santa Ana since you comparing cores. Yeah I agree it will, the core 2 duo will smoke just about any processor, except the Xeon 3series (3060/70). I almost considered getting them an AM2 FX-62, but I figured that's way overboard, haha. Or even getting a TYAN S3870G2NR-RS w/ Dual Opteron 280's Socket 940, lol.

But do you guys know of any really good MFC/All in one printers? I've been looking at the Epson CX6600, the Canon MP460, the Canon MP830, HP C6180, and the Epson CX5800F.

Thanks,

Mako3

Just a little hint to get you started, the FSB on the nf590 is going to max out around 330 or so (sometimes as high as 340-350), dunno what the multi is on the Opteron so just be aware that its there. ;)

And I usually look to Canon for printers, dunno what's good now.
